Anti-ICE Protesters Arrested at Contractor's Headquarters
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Eight protesters have been arrested at the Utah headquarters of a contractor operating immigrant detention centers.
Centerville Police spokesman Lt. Zan Robison said roughly 25 protesters arrived at the Management and Training Corporation's offices before 8 a.m. but many left before final arrests were made around noon.
Robison says the protesters were arrested on suspicion of trespassing and potentially other charges.
He said some of the protesters had chained themselves to the building.
The protesters were calling for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They said the contractor was profiting from hurting communities.
The company operates three detention centers but says none of them are used to detain children or minors.
It said in a statement that it works as a contractor for ICE and does not have a say in immigration policy.
