Immigration groups gather forces in Kansas

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - Groups opposed to illegal immigration are marshaling their forces in Kansas.

They say crackdowns on illegal immigration in neighboring states like Oklahoma and Missouri are driving undocumented workers to Kansas.

Susan Tully is national field director for the Federation for American Immigration Reform. She says illegal immigrants follow the path of least resistance -- and right now that's Kansas.

About 30 people met in Wichita tonight to hear representatives from FAIR, the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps and others on how to push local and state measures against illegal immigration.

Carol Helms is director of Immigration Reform for Oklahoma. Her lobbying efforts are credited with passing an Oklahoma law against illegal immigration. She discussed how to lobby state legislatures.
