VA: MS-13 Member Sentenced for Giving Green Light In Murder

MS-13 Member Sentenced for Giving Green Light In Murder

A man who gave the order for a rival gang member's murder was sentenced to 18 years in prison Wednesday.

Daniel A. Bonilla Delcid, 24, of Alexandria, was the first of five suspected MS-13 gang members sentenced for the July 18 slaying of Shannah Marie Angeles in Stafford County.

Angeles, 21, of Palatine, Ill., was shot in the head and body and left in the woods, where her body was found four days later. Prosecutors said Angeles was visiting a friend when she was targeted because MS-13 members thought she was a member of a rival gang.

Bonilla Delcid pleaded guilty to conspiracy and participating in a criminal street gang in January. He was not at the scene when Angeles was killed, but prosecutors said he gave the "green light" for the shooting.

Luis Antonio Serrano Gutierrez, 19, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and other charges and also was supposed to be sentenced Wednesday, but his case was continued.

Jose Santos Portillo Chicas, 31, of Woodbridge, is scheduled for trial in July. He faces the death penalty, because prosecutors said he was the shooter.

Edward A. Perez testified for the prosecution at a preliminary hearing. It was not clear when he would face trial.

Henry Mejivar, 18, is wanted in connection with the killing but has not been arrested.

    MS-13 driver gets 48 years

Gang driver gets 48 years for role in woman's slaying in Stafford.

The gang member who drove Shannah Marie Angeles to her execution July 18 was sentenced yesterday to 48 years in prison.

Luis Antonio "Crimen" Serrano-Gutierrez, 20, was sentenced on first-degree murder and other charges in Stafford Circuit Court.

Serrano-Gutierrez is the second MS-13 member sentenced in connection with Angeles' death.

Daniel A. "Slow" Bonilla-Delcid, 24, got 15 years last week for his role in the slaying. Bonilla-Delcid gave his approval for the slaying, the evidence showed, but was not at the scene when she was killed.

Angeles, 21, a mother of three who lived just outside Chicago, had come to visit someone in Northern Virginia last year when some MS-13 members asked her to go to a party.

She was brought to Stafford and shot and killed in the woods off Joshua Road. Her body was found several days later.

Three others still face trial, including 31-year-old Jose Santos "Little Blue" Portillo-Chicas. He is charged with capital murder, which could bring the death penalty.

Serrano-Gutierrez yesterday said he was sorry for what happened to Angeles, but he had no choice but to follow orders and drive her and gang members to the scene. He said he joined the gang at age 13 and knew that he and his family would be harmed if he ignored an order.

Serrano-Gutierrez said he is trying to change and has been helping the FBI and others solve crimes that he knows about.

Defense attorney Stacy Garcia said Serrano-Gutierrez deserves some leniency. She called him "a good person who has done some bad things."

Prosecutor Michael Hardiman scoffed at that characterization and urged Judge J. Martin Bass to give Serrano-Gutierrez a life sentence.

"Good people don't kill people for no reason," Hardiman said. "This is a bad person who did a horrible thing."

Serrano-Gutierrez, an illegal alien, will be deported to El Salvador if he finishes serving his time.

America is literally crawling with this gang scum. If the Bush's and Clinton had placed the need for tight border security ahead of corporate desire for cheap, illegal labor, we wouldn't be in this terrible mess.

I have the misfortune of living in the epicenter of the illegal alien invasion and have often thought if the midwest and eastern states could REALLY see what is happening out west there would be a house cleaning in Washington,DC.

Virginia has ALOT of gang problems. There have been teenagers who have had their hands cut off and people being shot dead for iniation purposes. The entire Virginia, Maryland and DC area has alot of gangs. MS-13 crap is spray painted all over interstate bridges, and shopping centers. I say give the gang members the worst possible punishment available. If they are illegal, which most of them are, DEPORT the entire family.
