PHOENIX -- The following is a press release from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office:

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who has been at the forefront of the fight against illegal immigration for the past two years, announced an illegal immigration hotline (602-876-4154) recently and posted it upon Sheriff's transportation vehicles and semi-trucks.

The Sheriff's overall message asks citizens to help fight the problems of illegal immigration, and it has not been without controversy. Since implementing the hotline, 2,535 citizens calls have been received, 647 of which are related to the employment of illegal aliens.

With the Arizona Employer Sanctions law taking effective January 1st, Sheriff Joe Arpaio is expecting an increase in citizens reporting employers suspected of hiring illegal aliens.

"We have been cracking down on illegal immigration," Arpaio says. "In the jails and on the streets, we have our employees trained. They are making difference in the illegal immigration problem here in Maricopa County and across the nation."

As the Sheriff's Office begins to work with Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas in enforcing the Arizona Employer Sanctions Law, the Sheriff has stated all citizens' reports will be evaluated, and that his deputies will conduct thorough and professional investigations into alleged illegal hiring practices.

Do you mean that people can report employers? And someone will actually investigate?

If something like that ever happened in CA the phones would ring off the hook!

But CA would be the last state to do this.
