More than half a ton of cocaine, a bale of marijuana, several firearms and ammunition were seized in Panama's Darien jungle, and two suspects were arrested, the Panamanian border patrol said.

The drugs were seized Friday in the communities of Pinogana and Uruti, and on slopes of Pirre hill, the law enforcement agency said in a statement.

The unidentified suspects - a Panamanian and a Colombian - were handed over to prosecutors.

Officers seized 542 bricks of cocaine, a bale of marijuana, an AK-47 assault rifle, two shotguns, three rifles and two radios.

A total of 3,176 kilos of cocaine have been seized in 2012 by border patrol agents, the border patrol said. EFE
