The blood-splattered body of a 69-year-old murder victim was found in the same Fort Lauderdale apartment as a 30-year-old man who was found alive but also covered in blood, police said.

Candido Paez was pronounced dead at the scene while Guatemalan native Alexander Lemas was arrested. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents positively identified Lemas and took him into custody for illegally entering the United States.

The murder happened about 2:25 a.m. Sunday in an apartment on the 600 block of Northeast Fifth Avenue, in Fort Lauderdale, detectives said.

Police received a 911 call about an unusual noise coming from the apartment. When officers arrived, they found Paez dead on the floor and Lemas sprawled on a bed, investigators said.

The murder investigation is ongoing.

Investigators ask anyone with information about the murder to contact Detective William DeJesus at 954-828-5366 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
