Alvaro Zuniga-Rivas has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident and could face up to 45 years in prison.


One of the seven pedestrians hit by a vehicle outside a North Charleston nightclub has died, according to Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet.

Jorge Luis Martinez, 23, died of multiple blunt force injuries following the Dec. 15 incident that left four hospitalized. Another victim remains in the hospital with a serious head injury.

Nisbet ruled his death as homicide Thursday.

Alvaro Zuniga-Rivas has been charged with three felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident, and could face up to 45 years in prison if convicted, according to Dorchester County Chief Deputy Sam Richardson.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has also put a "hold" on Zuniga-Rivas, indicating that he is in the United States illegally.
