To The Editor,
Victimmigration? Please! As a Christian, and an American, I take issue with Bill Dahl's editorial, Victimmigration: The Christian Call To Arms." (readers .. to view the editorial this writer is objecting to go to http://magic-city-news.com/article_3257.shtml
First of all, America has far too many self made "victim classes." We don't need another one with even more discriminatory special rights. Mr. Dahl utilizes the favorite liberal tactic of focusing on (Gasp!) "The children"! Here is a clue, children have parents, and there lies the responsibility, or, to use your words, "oppression"! What part of the word "illegal" do you fail to understand in the phrase "illegal immigration?" (By the way, that really is "illegal," not "undocumented." Class, can we say, "ILLEGAL"?)
America bashers come in various forms. Sadly, some even hide behind the cross. Mr. Dahl, are you as freely bashing Mexican President Vicente Fox, under whose administration such conditions exist that his people want to flee his country? Are you bashing Mexico or its President, who owes at least part of his wealth, name and power to his former employer, Coca Cola, and American company? Are you criticizing Mexican policy of having troops securing the southern border of Guatemala, but not the northern one with the US? American, Christian, or otherwise, you are a liberal, and the favorite country to be in the cross hairs of all liberals is the USA, and shame on you for using Christianity to do it!
You speak of "oppressing" immigrants. How many naturalized immigrants have come to this country and enjoyed a far superior quality of life? This country does more for more "oppressed" people than any other country in the world. Tell me, Mr. Dahl, why do you suppose more people try to get IN to this country as opposed to "OUT" ... hmm? So then, I suppose your real definition of "oppression" is us enforcing our laws, right? You list examples of "oppression" as no social security cards, no driver licenses (a privilege, not a right), no air travel (Does September 11 ring any bells?), limited opportunities for higher education (another privilege), to opportunity to work legally (Huh? Bill Dahl, Meet George Bush!), we prevent them from participating and contributing to our society (Sorry, but drug smuggling doesn't cut it!), we encourage poverty (Oh, now I see. So that is why they are fleeing Mexico and coming here in droves!), etc.
Some of your examples, quite frankly are just radical liberal hyperbole. Others are due to reasons of homeland security, for those of us who still wish to provide and maintain security for our homeland. The rest of the examples you cite are privileges of citizenship, like many now naturalized Mexican-Americans have learned the legal and proper way. Do you understand the concept of citizenship, Mr. Dahl? Do you really think God has a problem with our government enforcing its laws?
I am sure you are aware of the parable in which a Roman centurion shows a coin to Christ with the head of Caesar on the face of the coin and the centurion asks Christ which "king" he should worship, the one in Heaven or Rome? Christ tells the centurion to "Give to God what is God's and give to Caesar what is Caesar's." Also, to quote from Romans, 13, 1-3, "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except under God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore, he who resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who will resist will incur judgement." (Whew! Sure glad I'm not you!)
"Oppression"? You forgot to mention how this country leaves food and water out in the desert for those illegals (it bears repeating ... "ILLEGALS") who cross, grants citizenship to the children of those illegally enter our border hospitals and bear their children, only to re-cross the border, letting the U.S. citizen to pick up the tab. Do you think Mexico would do that? We are not oppressing anyone, we are only enforcing our laws, and our borders, like any other country, yet somehow, the U.S. is wrong for doing it. To the extent that in your mind, that "oppression" still exists, tell your illegal pals to try entering this country legally, respect our laws, assimilate as Americans, rather than bring Mexico here with them, and just using us for our charity and resources, and you won't see any more "oppression". What about those Mexicans (children as well as adults) who complied with our laws, respected our country and did what they were supposed to do to become citizens. You and people who advocate your policy are a slap in the face to what those people have done. Aren't you "oppressing" them?
There are very good reasons why countries have borders, and immigration laws. Nineteen of those reasons were aboard those four deadly planes on September 11. The drastic increase in recidivist murders, assaults, rapes, vandalism, robberies, burglaries, thefts, etc. from these "oppressed" unchecked illegals you love so much are more reasons, and some of those "oppressed" people are now in U.S. jails, living in better conditions than in some Mexican hotels, so go tell it to Vinnie Fox, south of the "Mexodus" border! You are obviously one of those "open border" advocates." Well, I am a football fan, and I am here to tell you, that football, played on a field without boundaries is chaos, and in the same way, a country without boundaries has anarchy! And you are from California?
Take off the blinders! Give the Bible a rest for a couple days and read "Mexifornia: A State of Reckoning," by one of your fellow Californians, Victor Davis Hanson if you truly don't know what is going on. But I don't think that is the case. You don't strike me as an ignorant man by any means, far from it. You are just in denial (and I don't mean the river in Egypt!), and just want an excuse to promote your liberal agenda and bash the United States, behind the shield of the cross! Shame on you! I sometimes see a fine line between ideologies and statements of blasphemy and treason, pal, and in my book, you crossed it!
In case you didn't get the memo, there is a war on terror going on, and illegal immigration is a big part of that war. You also don't care about the drastic increase in crime, environmental damage to the dessert (and private property), unsafe vehicles on our highways, tainted imported food, communicable diseases once eradicated in this country, overwhelmingly added fiscal burden on hospitals, forcing closings of emergency departments, and other travesties your "oppressed" pals have brought into and unto this country, by illegal immigration and our overly generous so called "free trade agreements" that enrich your cherished Mexico at the expense of US jobs, and families. You obviously don't care about the "oppression" your fellow Americans (children as well as adults), who are abiding by the laws are enduring, as your illegal Mexodus pals are turning their lives into a living hell. Charity begins at home, my fellow "American." This country, despite its generosity only has so many resources, like any other country, and illegal immigrants upset that delicate balance.
If that real world concept disturbs your sleep so badly, then why don't you cross the border and say "Hola" to your pal, Vinnie Fox! Oops ... no? Gee, I guess maybe the US, for all its "oppression," isn't so bad after all, hey, amigo? For someone who likes to coin catchy labels like "Victimmigration," "Mexodus," and "Chilegals," I think deep inside, you are really a "Mexerican," or maybe just a Hypocrerican"! It's a shame that for all your apparent vitriol for this country (not perfect by any means, but still the best one on earth) you obviously choose to stay here (and "suffer"), because quite frankly, there is just one more religious phrase I would love to pass onto to you, and other such hypocritical so called "Americans" ... "Adios!" But since I can't say that, I will just end by saying that, contrary to popular belief, the gate at the Rio Grande really does swing both ways, although, not often, so if our country offends you so much, don't ever hesitate to go through it in a southerly direction. And as my sage, and equally straight shooting father often says and would tell you, "Don't let it hit you in the fanny on the way out!"
