U.S. Border Patrol agents busted an accused murderer, a child rapist, and a human smuggler in southern Arizona.
Agents assigned to the Tucson Sector apprehended a Mexican national after he crossed the border illegally near Nogales, Arizona, on Monday. The man was previously charged in Colorado with sexual assault of a minor. He was convicted and sentenced to prison three years ago, according to information obtained by Breitbart Texas from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials in Tucson. After serving only 18 months, the man received a “Final Order of Deportation” from an immigration judge. He was removed from the U.S. via El Paso, Texas in September 2014.

Border Patrol agents working in tandem with CBP Air and Marine Operations (AMO) aircrews also stopped a marijuana smuggling operation on Monday. Agents operating surveillance cameras along the border observed a team of drug smugglers carrying large backpacks of what they would later determine to be marijuana crossing the border near Nogales. The AMO aircrew arrived to assist agents in stopping the smuggling operation. As the aircrew arrived, they observed the smugglers dropping their packs and fleeing back into Mexico. Agents arrived on the ground and recovered 1,100 pounds of marijuana. They estimated the street value to be over $500,000.

Two days before this incident, agents assigned to the inland Border Patrol checkpoint at Tubac, Arizona, stopped a vehicle with temporary license plates. The agents asked for permission to search the trunk of the vehicle. After the driver gave consent, CBP officials stated that agents discovered two Mexican nationals locked inside the trunk of the car. There was no inside latch release, making it impossible for the illegal immigrants to get out of the vehicle in the event of an accident or if the vehicle were abandoned by the smuggler. The driver of the vehicle, a U.S. citizen, was arrested and faces possible human smuggling charges. The two Mexican nationals were taken into custody.

Agents assigned to the Casa Grande station assisted the Arizona Department of Public Safety on November 10. The agents took custody of five people from the state highway patrol troopers. During processing of the illegal immigrants, agents discovered one of the men was a fugitive, wanted in another country for murder. Agents contacted Interpol and are holding the individual on charges of felony re-entry after removal. No information was given as to the fugitive’s prior criminal or immigration history.

The suspects processed by the Tucson Sector agents will be handled in accordance with Tucson Sector guidelines, CBP officials stated.
