VIRGINIA BEACH -- Police detained 14 suspected illegal immigrants Monday evening during a traffic stop on Interstate 264 in Virginia Beach.

A state trooper pulled over a box truck about 6:30 p.m. near Lynnhaven Road for a registration violation, Virginia State Police Sgt. D.S. Carr said.

During the stop, the trooper discovered 14 people in the truck who were suspected of being in the country illegally, Carr said.

State police detained them and notified federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, who took the 14 into custody late Monday for questioning regarding their residency, Carr said.

Proving, once again, that when serious attempts at enforcement are made, success can be readily observed.

In light of recent events, I'd say too little too late
