CONGRESS: Md. Rep. Kratovil introduces bill punishing employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens

WASHINGTON — Rep. Frank Kratovil, D-1st-Md., has introduced legislation that would increase the severity of criminal and civil penalties for employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens.

What has always made me crazy is the phrase "knowingly" which can easily be sidestepped by any attorney claiming the employer is not a document expert to be able to identify fake IDs from the real things. Unless it becomes mandatory to check through E-Verify for all businesses, the employer will undoubtedly be off the hook.
