DNA evidence has led Seattle police to arrest an Everett man in what might be one of their oldest cold cases.

A detective arrested 73-year-old Sam Pietro Evans on Thursday for investigation in the 1972 shooting death and robbery of Jackson Schley and the kidnapping and rape of his wife. Work at a State Patrol crime lab gave police enough information to make an arrest.

The detective, Mike Ciesynksi, told The Seattle Times that even though the suspect is old and infirm he’s still dangerous. Evans was scheduled for a bail hearing in King County Superior Court.

Two police officers were hurt when their patrol cars collided in Tukwila early this morning.

A King County Sheriff's supervisor said that a Tukwila police officer and a SeaTac deputy were responding to a report of an assault on a Metro bus driver, just after midnight Saturday, KIRO 7 reported.

The Tukwila patrol car collided with the SeaTac patrol car near South 148th Street and International Boulevard, the supervisor said.

A Washington State Patrol sergeant is on administrative leave after being arrested in Pierce County on suspicion of drunken driving.

The sergeant was off-duty and driving his personal car on Canyon Road near Puyallup about 3:30 a.m. March 20 when he apparently went off the road and got stuck, KING 5 reported on its Web site Friday.

The sergeant called a subordinate trooper for help.

A man who fled Seattle 27 years ago after being accused of killing a woman and her unborn baby has been sentenced to 76 years in prison.

After the 1982 shooting of a pregnant woman who stopped to offer Robert Besabe a ride, he fled to California and assumed an alias. He served 10 years in prison for killing a different person and then was deported to his native Philippines.

He was arrested in September 2007 after he walked into the U.S. Embassy in Manila to try to get a new passport.

Three people were under arrest after a King County Metro bus driver was beaten unconscious during an attack aboard her bus.

Two officers were treated for injuries after their patrol cars collided as they responded to the assault.

King County sheriff’s spokesman John Urquhart said the bus attack happened early Saturday morning when about eight young people boarded the bus and some began punching and beating the 56-year-old driver.

Detectives from the State Patrol caught one of their most wanted suspects at his King County work place Thursday thanks to a tip.

According to the report, Cecilio Huerta-Carrizal seriously injured his passenger in a car wreck on February 5, 1999. He was charged with vehicular assault and it was believed he had fled to Mexico the day after the collision.

An arrest warrant was issued and Huerta-Carrizal was placed on the WSP’s most wanted website. Someone who had seen his picture on the site alerted detectives that he may be working in King County.

The patrol crime lab was able to match fingerprints taken related to immigration issues in 1997 and 2002.

In 2002, Huerta-Carrizal started using the name of Jose Cruz Renteria-Orduno. The Patrol found several Washington state identification cards in his possession at the time of the arrest including one for the assumed name.

Huerta-Carrizal was arrested without incident and been booked into the King County Jail.
