That seems to be against the law. And if the BP catches anybody, they get released anyway. So why risk their life for nothing?
The land drains into the river. If you build a wall, it blocks the water draining to the river, backs up and floods the land.

Yes, the drug cartels crossing the river would be targets.

Yes, I blame them. We don't need Border Patrol sitting in their AC offices and vehicles, they need to be doing patrols. That's their job.

No, it's not against the law for our troops to guard our borders. That is actually why we have troops to begin with.

In my opinion you are seriously overestimating our border patrols ability to effectively patrol 170 miles of river. If the BP says they can't efficiently combat the cartel crossings, I believe them. An effective wall would be a force multiplier and would make their job along those 170 miles much more effective. Furthermore, jtdc had a point when he mentioned the safety of our BP. How easy would it be for cartel snipers to pick off boat patrols along the river if they so chose? I would hope they wouldn't want to draw that sort of attention, but then again, who knows what they're capable of.

Like beezer said earlier, build the wall inland from the river! Along the wall build high speed roads, stadium lighting and place a spotter tower (tower guards armed with night vision goggles) every mile along the the wall. The cartels are well financed and have obviously figured out how to get around the patrols along the river. When the cartels adapt and adjust, we have to adapt and adjust to stay one step ahead of them.

We don't have enough money to stay ahead of the cartels. You have to put the cartels out of business.

Well you're certainly not going to do that by legalizing illegal drugs if that's what you're implying. Even the article said the cartels are smuggling illegals across the river for $5,000- $20,000 a head.

We'll see what happens. 30 states have passed medical marijuana laws and 10 of those have passed full recreational weed laws. There will be at least 3 more initiatives on the ballot in 2018, maybe by fall even more.

That won't impact the hard drugs, but marijuana is 70% of the business and due to its size and bulk, the majority of the cross border drug traffic.

    Time will tell.

Like I said, smarter engineers know to put vent holes to let the water through.

So now you claim to not know of the Posse Comitatus Act?

You would have to build the bollard fence to accomplish that.

The Posse Comitatus Act has nothing to do with guarding, patrolling or securing our borders against foreign invaders. Never did.

They could bulldoze along the river and dump big boulders along it where feasible.

Why? You can have a solid 30 ft high wall with drain holes through it at the bottom so water can flow through.

Then why have they made a big deal about the NG not being armed and making no arrests?

Only if there are grade elevations and different water pressure.

    Because they're stupid.
