TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Mexican citizen wanted for kidnapping and attempted murder was caught in Tucson and turned over to Mexican law enforcement Thursday afternoon.

Jose Mario Islas-Andrade, 32 of Nogales, Mexico, was charged with kidnapping in 2008 and attempting to murder Sonora State Police officer Raul Rubio-Flores in 2012.

According to officials, Islas-Andrade shot the officer multiple times at point-blank range but the officer survived.

He has previously been removed from the United States but was arrested in Tucson Wednesday by Homeland Security Investigators.

"The capture and return of this criminal fugitive to Mexico to face justice is a direct result of our close collaboration with our law enforcement counterparts in Mexico," said Matt Allen, special agent in charge of HSI Arizona.
