EL PASO COUNTY, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested two men with criminal histories who crossed illegally into the United States in separate incidents.

The first happened Monday around 1:15 p.m. when agents patrolling an area near Clint followed footprints about 12 miles east from the Fabens border crossing, officials said.

Agents found Jose Santos Serrano Garcia, 32, hiding in an arroyo near Interstate 10. Officials discovered that he had a warrant for his arrest for a probation violation in Virginia. Garcia also had a history of drug offenses and previous immigration removals. He was turned over to El Paso County Sheriff's Office and is pending extradition.

In another incident, agents found a 38-year-old Mexican citizen early Wednesday morning about 8 miles from the Fabens border crossing after following footprints that lead from the Rio Grande, officials said.

Officials said Edmundo Perea Espinoza along with two others were hiding in brush when agents located them.

Espinoza told agents that he crossed into the country illegally, and he was arrested. Agents discovered that Espinoza had a previous conviction for child sexual contact and had been removed from the U.S. in the past.

Espinoza was booked into the county jail while the other two individuals were processed for removal proceedings, officials said.
