Plea deal offered in Conn. immigrant rape

MILFORD -- A Connecticut prosecutor has offered a plea deal to a Maryland man accused of raping a Salvadoran girl he was paid to smuggle into the country.

The prosecutor is offering 26-year-old Francisco Pascual 15 years in prison. If convicted at trial he could face more than 80 years behind bars.

Police say the girl was able to escape from Pascual Dec. 30, 2007, in Milford, four days after illegally crossing the Mexican border in California.

Police say the girl, under the age of 13, was the last of several illegal immigrants Pascual dropped off at various cities across the country.

Pascual, offered the deal Tuesday, has until April 7 to either accept the offer or go to trial. ۩
