    DUI / DRIVER’S LICENSE CHECKPOINT:
    FEBRUARY 27, 2009


    On February 27, 2009, the Escondido Police Department conducted a DUI Sobriety / Driver’s License Checkpoint in the 200 block of E. Valley Pkwy from 6:15 PM until 12:10 AM. The emphasis of this checkpoint was to detect intoxicated and unlicensed drivers as well as to provide a highly visible operation to deter DUI.

    The following activity resulted from this checkpoint:

    ï‚· 2,175 vehicles entered the checkpoint westbound on Valley Pkwy

    ï‚· 1,118 vehicles were screened in primary

     98 vehicles were sent to secondary (drivers who could not produce a driver’s license or who were suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs)

    ï‚· 6 drivers were arrested for DUI

    ï‚· 1 misdemeanor arrest for possession of marijuana

     60 vehicles were impounded at this checkpoint, 15 drivers did not have auto insurance, 11 drivers had a suspended driver’s license, and 48 drivers did not have a driver’s license

    ï‚· 67 citations were issued at this checkpoint

    This checkpoint operated in conjunction Mothers against Drunk Drivers, the San Diego County DUI Probation Team, the California Highway Patrol, and the North County Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Council.
