The father of a young man killed by an illegal immigrant, spoke out after California's state senate leader said opposition to sanctuary city policy is grounded in white supremacy.
State Senate President Kevin DeLeon (D-Los Angeles) said Attorney General Jeff Sessions' law enforcement policies are based on "white supremacist values and not American values."
Jamiel Shaw, whose son Jamiel Jr. was killed in 2008 by an illegal immigrant recently released from prison, said DeLeon was being disrespectful to the victims.
"We miss our kids, we love our kids," he said. "[DeLeon] wants to act like our kids were never born."
Shaw said "racist" and "white supremacist" are the new buzzwords used to stifle debate, and pointed out the irony of the terms because he is a black man.
He challenged DeLeon and other sanctuary city supporters, asking what they would do if their family member were killed by an illegal immigrant.
"Where's my son's 'sanctuary'?" he said.
