Don’t expect any softening in Donald Trump’s immigration speech Wednesday, at least according to his son Donald Trump Jr.

Trump’s son spoke with CNN’s Anderson Cooper Tuesday and said his father's recent comments on immigration were just the Republican candidate soliciting input — it didn’t mean anything was going to change.

“He wasn’t softening on anything. He didn’t change his stance on anything. What he did was, and what he’s done all along is, he's speaking with the people. He’s not lecturing them like most of the politicians you see today. He’s actually having a conversation,” Trump Jr. said in a pre-released transcript from part of the interview. “Unlike our opponent, who basically will take into account only those who contribute millions and millions of dollars to her campaign.”

Trump’s son said that when his father met with Hispanic leaders earlier this month he surveyed the room on their thoughts, but it doesn’t mean his policies have changed.

“He asked an opinion. He didn’t say, 'Well my policies now changed.' He didn’t say that. Now, the media will run with it however they want. But that’s not what actually happened, and I was in the room,” he said.

On Wednesday, Trump will give a speech on immigration in Phoenix. The address comes as Trump has increased his outreach efforts to minorities.

Leading up to his speech, Trump has made a series of comments about his immigration proposals (including that he was open to a “softening” in his proposal) that raise questions about what a President Trump would do in office.
