CULLMAN, Ala. (WIAT) - They live in the shadows ... thousands of illegal migrant workers who tend to farms all over the state. Their fate in Alabama is expected to be determined within the next two weeks. A federal judge is set to rule on the Immigration Law no later than September 28th.

Illegal immigrants and farmers hope lawmakers come up with a fast track work permit plan for the state, which will allow them to work here legally for a specific period of time.

Farmer Kim Haynes says the current visa program is not feasible. He says the process can take more than a year to get workers here, its costly for immigrants and has strict financial requirements for farmers to follow.

On Monday, about a dozen farmers will meet with lawmakers and the Agriculture Department in Cullman county. They want to discuss work permit options for the state legislature to consider.

HELL NO! No illegal alien should benefit from this!! Go back to your home country and apply!

Too expensive for you? Tough noogies, it's the cost of doing business! We the taxpayers should not have to subsidize your business by paying for all the entitlements your "cheap" labor costs us! Coming to the US has always been costly for immigrants. There is no way we should be making it easier for illegal aliens to continue squatting here, get 'em out!!!

If you can't make a profit by legal means, then get out of the business!
