Human Smugglers Leave Migrants to Die in California Desert

File Photo: U.S. Border Patrol17 Sep 20185Human smugglers abandoned three migrants in the Southern California desert, leaving them to die. In two separate incidents, two migrants died and Border Patrol agents managed to rescue a pregnant woman.

“Entrusting your life to criminals to smuggle you into the United States is dangerous, as these unfortunate incidents illustrate,” El Centro Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez said in a written statement. “Smugglers don’t care about lives, they only care about collecting money.”


El Centro Sector agents working a foot patrol in the Jacumba Mountains came upon a migrant on the morning of September 11 who was severely dehydrated after human smugglers left him to die. The agents began first aid and determined he could not be moved safely, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.


The agents called in rescue teams from Yuma Search and Rescue. The group is located at Marine Corps Station Yuma. The agents also called for assistance from Border Patrol BORSTAR teams.

The migrant’s condition quickly worsened and by 11:55 a.m., he lost consciousness. The rescue teams were unable to resuscitate the migrant who died from exposure to the heat and lack of water.
The following day, Border Patrol agents received an alert that a man and a pregnant female were needing to be rescued after their smugglers abandoned them in the Yuha Desert. The agents quickly mounted a search and rescue effort and found the two migrants.


Agents found the woman in “dire condition,” officials stated, and immediately began emergency medical treatment. With the assistance of EMS and the Imperial County Fire Department, the woman and her unborn child’s lives were saved.


The man traveling with her was not as fortunate. Rescue efforts by the EMS crews were not enough to save the man’s life and he died from exposure to the heat and lack of water.


At least 283 migrants died during or after attempts to illegally cross the border into the United States during 2018, according to the Missing Migrant Project.

It's truly disgusting for these people to come here in violation of our laws, risk their lives for ... whatever ...., then die and expect Americans to scoop 'em up and deal with their remains. This is something that should NOT be happening to begin with.

Implement Judy's Plan B:

Tell all these countries, if your citizens don't stop entering our country illegally, then your country will have no aid from or trade with the United States. Period.

Because we don't use sanctions to punish these counties including their citizens for this, they think it's cute, they think it's a game, a cat and mouse game of outlaw, it's about drugs, it's about tax-free money, it's about remittances, it's about smuggling, pornography, sex slave trade, worker abuse, it's about scamming our safety net and exploiting our programs that are there for Americans, not illegal aliens, it's about illegal voting and breeding anchor baby voters and future politicians on our soil. It's repugnant on every single level and the home countries totally support it, encourage it, enable it, and defend and protect it.

Sanctions, baby, that's the trick to end this scam against our country. Call the countries, Mr. President, get it rollin'.

What gives you the impression that economic sanctions would actually work? The majority of time economic sanctions do not work (Cuba is a fine example of that).

What you're asking for, even the best case scenario, will only drive more poverty stricken folks to our borders to cross illegally and to claim asylum looking for that better life we keep hearing about. Furthermore, it would have zero effect on the human smugglers, drug smugglers, illegals that come to the U.S. to specifically prey on Americans.

The economic sanctions you keep screaming for are non-workable and will never receive the consideration you keep demanding. Time to get over it and move on.

Our illegal immigration problem needs to be fixed internally. We must secure our own borders. What we shouldn't do is depend on other countries to secure our own country. So, instead of yelling for something that's not going to happen, maybe you should be spending more time demanding our federal government, including the U.S. Congress, do their constitutional duty to secure our country!

More times than not, economic sanctions do not create the desire effect. Do your homework.

Yes, they do. You're sadly mistaken. Sanctions do work and they will work fast and furious on illegal immigration into the United States. These countries will stop it at the source before they leave the country. They aren't going to risk their economies over a bunch of crumb dumb con artist losers.

The economic sanctions you're demanding would be counterproductive, hurting the United States more than the target.

No they wouldn't. But you believe whatever you want. Economic sanctions like tariffs on other countries do not hurt the United States. We make money from it.

No it won't. They wouldn't be able to get through Mexico. As soon as all that money flow stops, they'll be squealing like little hungry pigs for their money to start flowing again. They won't risk that to send more up. They'll hold on to what they have already. Most Mexicans are very smart people.

So you want to depend on Mexico to secure our border for us? I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen. By the way, who is going to secure our border from Mexican incursion? Expecting the fox to guard the hen house just isn't workable. It's our responsibility to guard our own borders.

Like I said, your plan will only drive more illegals our way. Moreover, the countries are probably receiving more in remittances from their citizens in our country illegally than they would be losing through your economic sanction plan.

Anyway you cut it, Judy's Plan "B" is folly with no teeth. So to make up for the lost remittances, does your plan include subsidizing the countries with more U.S. taxpayer dollars? Of course not, so the only sensible plan to stop the fox from raiding the hen house is to build a better and more secure hen house.
