OTAY MESA —San Diego firefighters rescued two women stuck atop a 30-foot-tall border wall early Sunday in Otay Mesa, and one of the women’s companions fell from the structure, a U.S. Border Patrol agent said.

Agents came across four people — two men and two women, all of them identified as Mexican nationals — at a secondary border wall west of the Otay Mesa Port about 2 a.m., Border Patrol Agent Justin Castrejon said Monday.

San Diego Fire-Rescue Department firefighters had to help lower the women from the top of the wall because they were unable to get down on their own, Castrejon said.

He said one of the two men fell from the wall and was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

The other man — it was unclear if he was helped down — and the two women were taken to a Border Patrol station for processing.
