Wkgn:Father/Son aspire for positions agst anti-immigrant mea

Stay tuned to see how this turns out. I went to hear the father and son talk. Mainly it seems they are running to get back at Waukegan (for applying for 287g, police efforts, etc...). The father spoke of rescinding the application, stopping all harassment of his people by the police, that code enforcement couldn't just 'knock on doors' anymore, etc... One was left thinking that he and his son wouldn't work for the people of my town, only a certain portion of them. Please say a prayer for my town.

Waukegan (Illinois), Jan 14 (EFE) .- Two Hispanic father and son, seeking to change the anti-immigrant atmosphere in the city of Waukegan, north of Chicago in the elections on February 24 to aspire to the mayor and council respectively.

Jose L. Guzman, 52, an employee of the District Parks Libertyville, aspires to be the mayor of this city 40 miles to Chicago while his son, Joseph A. Guzman Jr., 32 years and an employee of the state of Illinois, seeks to be councilman.

Guzman father told Efe that the anti-immigrant climate that has been seen in the city over the past three years has caused some Hispanics have moved.

"Those who remain," he said, "prefer to do their shopping in neighboring towns because of the fear of the police checkpoints."

Such a change in shopping habits, according to Guzman, has caused a problem for traders in the city, looking for something to change his candidacy.

"Even now many Hispanics will buy petrol at the neighboring towns," the Hispanic candidate.

Originally from Uriangato, Guanajuato, and 38 years of living in the country, Father Guzman was known as an activist in Waukegan against local anti-immigrant forces.

Three years ago the checkpoints, conducted by the police under federal guidelines to arrest undocumented Latinos, were so frequent, the candidate for mayor says that until he came to be arrested.

In the election next February 24, Guzman facing the current mayor Richard H. Hyde, who seeks reelection, and Sam Cunningham, the only African American councilman in the city.

"The change I would be here because they are part of the problem," said Guzman father, who if elected will seek to work with Hispanics in the city, where Latinos are about 60 percent of the 92,000 residents.

While his son Joseph Jr. seeks to be elected as the third Hispanic city councilman.

Guzman son faced a challenge when the opposition disqualified 16 signatures demonstrating the grounds that his candidacy was written in block letters and not heading, as is the custom.

The dispute was resolved today when the judge in the Waukegan Board of Elections decided in his favor.

"The first battle and we won," his father told Efe after learning of the news.

For now, both candidates said they were working hard to inform voters of their campaigns.

"We are very excited, we are helping the two, both can learn from each other," Guzman told Efe son.

The father, meanwhile, said his campaign is working hard on "Waukegan Para Todos" and raises funds to get its message. It said it intends to create an Internet site to inform residents of Waukegan that Hispanics already arrived.

"What we have here is not political power."

His son said that they have the determination to walk his district block by block "to meet personally with all voters."

They said the candidates, there are about 7,000 Latino voters in Waukegan. If only half the votes for them, victory is in your hands, something that would represent a change that is necessary to consider this place.

"If the Latino community comes out to vote, we will make history," said Guzman father, who said that "diversity will come to Waukegan." EFE

Okay, 60% of 92,000 would be about 55,000. 7,000 Latino voters. Does that mean there are 48,000 illegals in the city? Half of the registered Latinos vote for this idiot (3,500) Yeah, I think that's enought to win the election.

Apparentlly he doesn't remember when Waukegan applied for 287g training. The illegals were boycotting stores that refused to display "No 287g" placards in their windows. The local Hispanic grocery lost 60% of their business from those that wouldn't shop at any store that DID display the card. The big box grocery lost absolutely no business. So much for big plans.

Horrid translation, but why would the guy get arrested if he was not violating some law, after all he was eligibile for the 1986 amnesty? I guess it has spurred him into believing that anything wrong a Latino, legal or not, does should be forgiven. The arrogance of these people is absolutely amazing and they should be fought tooth and nail.

    are the citizens of Waukegan--

.....Going to allow two people to seize a vested piece of America and make it a small foreign country within our boundaries?? And some folks say that is not an invasion. They are two stinking traitors and should be sent back to their country of origin.

This is a google translation -but you can get the gist of it. They seem to be running on such a narrow platform.

Waukegan wants change, and change me. "So begins a pre-interview with the Democratic mayor of this city, Jose A. Guzman, a native of the Mexican state of Guanajuato and seeks to unseat the current mayor, Richard Hyde.

. But Mexico is not alone, as he joined his son Joseph L. Guzman, a single father who wants to fill the vacancy of the late councilman to stop political John Balen in the district 2.

Father and son were interviewed by race in their campaign offices and was attended by Lily Paredes and Ramon Becerra, president of the Chicago chapter of LCLAA (Labor Council for Latin American Advancement), an organization that is involved in the fight against antimigrantes laws in Waukegan.

Becerra described the precandidaturas of Guzman as "historic nationwide.

The mayor as a candidate a year ago tried to occupy the post of supervisor of health, but lost in the elections of February 2008.

    OBAMA LO INSPIRA OBAMA inspired

Guzman stressed that the election of an African American is an attraction that "here you can change and I do what I'm looking for is equality for all," the Fox.

The Guzmán seeking elective posts in the desire to clear all anti-immigrant law in Waukegan, and the marriage of Julia and Juan Rodriguez, volunteers in the campaign as "the city of terror."

"We believe in them because the current government is the city of terror," said Julia.

The pre-existing leads as rivals to Mayor Richard Hyde and alderman Sam Cunningham, "but they do not change because they are there, change me," Guzman assured.

Primary elections are February 24, and father Guzman said of winning the mayoralty, the first to be fired at police chief Bill Biang to immediately suspend the seizure of cars.

According to Ramon Becerra Guzman and himself, it takes at least 3 thousand 400 votes to win the precandidatura, and about 25 thousand U.S. dollars for the campaign for mayor.

Guzman said of winning the mayoralty, the first to be fired at police chief Bill Biang to immediately suspend the seizure of cars.
    Let me explain this, fool.

First, the seizure law was put in place by the City of Waukegan to prevent driving without license and insurance. It applies to everyone, not merely those who choose to play the race card. The Chief of Police is required to enforce the law - whether it be Biang or his successor. If you can't understand how laws work, then you're not qualified to be mayor.

Second, the office of Chief of Police is an elected position. You can't pick and choose by yourself, unless you get another relative to run for the office.

Third, Waukegan had a very popular Hispanic police chief Miguel Juarez who passed away in 2003. There's even a school named after him. I guess that doesn't count when you're intent on playing the victim.
