A woman has been arrested and charged with stabbing her father to death. Police found 42-year-old Miguel Flores lying dead in the grass near his estranged wife's west Houston apartment at 12735 Whittington about 9 p.m. Monday.
It was later determined that he had been stabbed three times by his daughter, Ana Flores, 20.
"Apparently he (Miguel Flores) had a habit of watching the family," said Sgt. John Shirley, HPD Homicide.
After a heated exchange, Ana Flores first stabbed her father about 8:55 p.m.
He was able to yell up to the apartment and say he had been stabbed and ask his estranged wife to call an ambulance, Shirley said.
Miguel Flores then walked around the Whittfield Apartments, wounded.
Minutes later, Ana Flores again found her father and stabbed him twice with the folding knife, Shirley said.
He added that the victim's estranged wife likely was not aware her daughter had killed her father, and remained inside the apartment after calling authorities.
A CrimeStoppers tip called in Tuesday first cast suspicion on the victims daughter, who later confessed to the crime.
"At first she led us to believe it was justified," Shirley said.
Ana Flores, an illegal immigrant, remains in the Harris County Jail, charged with murder, Shirley said.

A judge ordered a Houston woman accused of fatally stabbing her father be held without bond after federal immigration authorities said they want to review her immigration status.
Ana S. Flores, 20, is charged with murder in the death of 42-year-old Miguel Angel Flores last week outside her mother's apartment at 12735 Whittington near Dairy Ashford, police said.
She had been held on $50,000 bail after her arrest Thursday night, but prosecutors on Monday requested that she remain in the Harris County Jail without bail after immigration authorities questioned her immigration status.
Visiting state District Judge Lee Duggan granted the request.
Flores is scheduled to appear in court June 19. If she is released, she will be turned over to immigration officials.
Flores' attorney, Ira Chenkin, said Flores' mother is a U.S. citizen and petitioned the government to grant her daughter citizenship.
The government accepted the petition April 25, 2008, Chenkin said.
The Department of Citizenship and Immigration Services does not release details of people's citizenship status because of privacy issues, said Maria Elena Upson, department spokeswoman.
However, Upson said, parents who are U.S. citizens can request citizenship for their non-citizen children.
Chenkin said he will file a motion to have a bond set for Flores, who has said she killed her father in self-defense.
"She's been abused by this animal since she was 3 years old, according to her family," Chenkin said.
Harris County court records show that Miguel Flores was charged in 1991 with felony injury to a child after he was accused of intentionally striking Ana Flores in the head with a beer bottle when she was 3 years old.
He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of reckless injury to a child causing bodily injury, records show. He was sentenced to one year of probation and was ordered to pay a $250 fine and to attend parenting classes and a substance abuse program.
