Woman found beheaded in Mexican border city

Ciudad Juarez – A woman was found beheaded in this violent city on Mexico's northern border, the Chihuahua state Attorney General's Office said Wednesday.

The body was discovered wrapped in a blanket, with the woman's severed head beside it, on the corner of Cañaveral and Centeno streets in Ciudad Juarez.

Though beheadings are not rare in Mexico's increasingly bloody drug war, this is the first case of a decapitation of a woman in Chihuahua, the AG's office said.

Women make up more than 10 percent of the more than 2,300 people slain so far this year in Juarez, Mexico's murder capital, which lies just across the Rio Grande from El Paso, Texas.

Most of the killings are attributed to a battle between the Juarez and Sinaloa drug cartels for control of prime smuggling routes into the United States.

A video posted Tuesday on the Internet shows a Mexican woman menaced by several armed men as she confesses to working for a rival drug cartel.

The woman seen in the video was found dead Oct. 12 with a rose left on her body.

Separately, the Chihuahua AG's office said a popular singer and two companions were found dead Tuesday night on the road linking the towns of La Junta and Tomochic.

Javier Ortega Piñon, 28, and the other two victims died of gunshot wounds, AG's office spokesman Carlos Gonzalez told Efe, adding that the singer known as "The Falcon of the Mountains" had been arrested last year by federal police.

Though Ortega and a friend were discovered in possession of a kilo of crystal meth, five guns and $20,000 in cash, he was never charged, Gonzalez said.

I think this must have been the same woman who showed up on the last M3 Report. It said her head was severed using a guitar string.

Sickening. Ticks me off when I see those who live in mex say it is still "safe" and the US papers are "fear mongering". People who try and tell others this will have blood on their hands!
