Don't give up on state reps
My rep in the NC General Assembly, Bob England, was a sponsor of NC House Bill #1183 providing in-state tuition to NC colleges and universities for the children of illegals. After some serious heat from his constituents and some bad press, he changed his vote. He did not respond to my first two emails on the subject. On the third email, I included information I found through Alipac about Federal law making it a felony to aid and abet illegals and suggesting that maybe state legislators should at least act in the spirit of Federal immigration law, even if the aid and abet law did not specifically apply to them.
That email elicited the following reply:
"Thank you for taking the time to send this information to me. After reviewing the facts, I had my name removed from the bill on Monday, April 18. I was under the impression that these people would be filing for their citizenship and therefore would be Americans. This is not the case and I cannot sponsor such Legislation."
Can you say "backpedal." He did not know the fundamentals of legislation he was sponsoring (can you believe it), but he did know that the backlash was coming.
I recently sent him another email, again with information from this site, about the program that is being tried in various jurisdictions for local law enforcement to cooperate with the federal government on immigration enforcement, by arresting and detaining illegals who are arrested for crimes other than illegal immigration. I told him it was this kind of state effort that was needed to head off the disaster that awaits us as a result of the flood of illegals. Here was his response:
"Good Morning _________, Thanks for your informative notes.
Bob E."
It's not much, but it's a long way from his sponsoring the ridiculous tuition bill, to thanking me for sending him information on the subject that he obviously needs desperately.
I thought this might encourage some others to persist even when it seems the pols aren't listening. Sometimes they do.

Thanks, guys. I am not sure of the number that have pulled off the bill. England may have been one of the first 8 or 9.
I do know that the bill is about as popular as the Elephant Man at a hot tub party. A dozen people at the small church I attend came up to me to comment on my letters to the editor in our local papers. Every single one said that they agreed 100%. The only support for this travesty seems to have comes from the out-of-touch axis of weasel consisting of the newspapers, academia, and liberal politicians.
