Thread: Interview with Retired Border Patrol Agent and NM Rancher

News NM interviewed retired Border Patrol Sector Chief Gene Wood and southern NM Rancher Steve Wilmeth this morning, regarding the pending Wildnerness legislation in Dona Ana County, New Mexico, and the devastating impacts it would have on our border security and the ranchers in the area.

Mr. Wood made a presentation at a border security forum held in New Mexico. They have these quotes, and a link to his presentation slides.

No motorized vehicle access and no mechanized equipment is the original intent of the law and the cornerstone of Wilderness. NO law enforcement agency can provide protection under these conditions. Environmental idealism has trumped national security. Designating Wilderness on the border IS NOT WORKING. Wilderness designation contribute significantly to criminal activity and environmental devastation. With appropriate support, U.S. Border Patrol agents can succeed in security our border. WHEN our borders are secure, environmental restoration has a far greater chance of success."
