While the article states the Day Laborers "volunteered" most did not come from Day Labor Site in Lake Forest. The Day Laborers stated they were paid and some came as far as Los Angeles.

The work was done for a few private property owners, all of whom are miles away from the Day Labor Site, in private secluded canyon.

I wonder what Chris Newman's salary is? Hmmm. Maybe he doesn't take a salary, doing it out of the goodness of his heart?
