You can Put Lipstick on a Pig, But it's Still a Pig

You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. You can call an Amnesty anything you want, and it's still Amnesty.

Polling Firms Hired By Pro-Amnesty Groups Give Advice to Trick the American Public

Whatever they call it, it's still an AMNESTY!

Late last week, The Politico newspaper reported that our opponents in the Open Borders coalition have been working for several years with public opinion polling firms. Their object is to craft new language that Open Borders politicians can use to convince Americans to accept an illegal alien amnesty.

The polling effort was sparked by the other side's earth-shattering defeat three summers ago in the U.S. Senate.

You remember the amnesty attempt of 2007 when the mobilization of NumbersUSA members was widely credited as beating the open-borders efforts of Pres. Bush, Congressional leadership, Big Business, Big Labor, most religious groups and the mainstream media. They had all the money in the world, but it wasn't enough.

After their loss in 2007, the pro-amnesty forces hired opinion polling firms to find out how they could describe an amnesty and immigration increase in a way that NumbersUSA and other opponents couldn't mobilize so much opposition.

Term rejected by polling firms: "Earned path to citizenship." The polling firms discovered that Americans saw this phrase as a giveaway. A free gift to lawbreakers.

New term by Open Borders coalition: Illegal aliens will be "required to register." This makes it sound like U.S. authorities are somehow in control, instead of the lawbreakers.

Correct term: "Amnesty for Illegal Aliens!" It is what it's always been--a terrible injustice to all those people who came to America the right way--and an insult to unemployed Americans looking for jobs. Amnesty will encourage new waves of illegal entries and visa overstays. It will keep wages for lower skilled American workers heading down, as they have been doing for 30 years.

Term rejected by polling firms: "Undocumented Worker." According to the pollsters, Americans dislike this term, which makes it sound like someone merely forgot their billfold when leaving their home.

New term by Open Borders coalition: "Illegal Immigrant." This is an improvement. Many NumbersUSA supporters use this word all the time. Yet, the term is inaccurate.

Correct term: According to federal law, the correct term is "Illegal Alien." It's not a pretty term, but breaking into a country and stealing jobs is not a pretty activity.

An Amnesty of 12-20 million illegal aliens will change this country forever. A permissive Amnesty is just what the Open Borders coalition want.

Is this what YOU want? I'm sure the answer to that question is "NO!!!" Will you back up your belief by supporting NumbersUSA with your gift of $250.

Will the other side be successful in fooling Americans by using newer, more acceptable language to sell old-fashioned Amnesty? Well, it might work if NumbersUSA and our 1 million members didn't stand in the way!

All year long we'll be shouting from the roof tops, "Comprehensive Immigration Reform is Amnesty." Congress will get the message. IF we keep the pressure on!

Harry Reid and other Democratic leaders in Congress have eagerly adopted the new, poll-tested, tough sounding rhetoric.

Reid's gone further, shifting his legislative strategy. It now goes something like this: Pass the DREAM Act, which would allow illegal aliens who came to this country as children to become permanent residents if they attend college or enroll in the military. Then afterwards or concurrently, pass the Ag Jobs bill, which would allow illegal farm workers and agricultural guest workers to become permanent residents.

Well, both bills are amnesties. And we're going to stop any and all amnesties, just as we've succeeded in stopping every single amnesty attempt of the 21st century.

Here at NumbersUSA, we have struggled against and WON every amnesty fight in the last 10 years! And we can win this one as well. But we have to stick together. Tremendous resources are needed to send millions of faxes, organize all 435 Congressional districts, rate each candidate running for federal office this fall, and more. We need your financial support today..
