Poll: Americans Think Mexico Should Pay US for Illegal Immigration Costs
Friday, September 2, 2016 02:41 PM
By: Theodore Bunker
More than half of Americans believe Mexico should reimburse the U.S. for the cost of illegal immigration, despite more positive attitudes towards the country than three years ago.
A new Rasmussen Reports poll of American adults shows a friendlier disposition towards Mexico, but many remain unsatisfied with illegal immigration.
The survey asked whether Mexico is a U.S. ally or an enemy, or somewhere in between:
Ally: 47 percent
Enemy: 4 percent
In between: 43 percent
Not sure: 6 percent
Asked if they agree that Mexico wants to stop illegal immigration into the U.S.:
Agree: 21 percent
Disagree: 50 percent
Not sure: 29 percent
Asked if Mexico should compensate U.S. taxpayers for the cost of illegal immigration:
Yes: 50 percent
No: 34 percent
Not sure: 15 percent
Rasmussen also asked these questions three years ago, in May, 2013.
On Mexico as a U.S. ally:
Ally: 30 percent
Enemy: 8 percent
In between: 52 percent
Not sure: 10 percent
On whether Mexico wants to stop illegal immigration into the U.S.:
Yes: 12 percent
No: 57 percent
Not sure: 32 percent
On Mexico compensating U.S. taxpayers for the cost of illegal immigration:
Yes: 54 percent
No: 29 percent
Not sure: 17 percent
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who has called for the deportation of millions of illegal immigrants and the construction of a wall on the southern border, on Wednesday visited Mexico at the invitation of President Enrique Peña Nieto.
Peña Nieto told reporters the meeting was "open and constructive," and that the next U.S. president, whoever it is, "will find in Mexico and its government" a neighbor who "wants to work constructively to strengthen even more," the Associated Press reported.

With Mexico recognizing dual citizenship, all they have to do is get their second generation established in US politics and it's all over. I don't know why they are talking about financial compensation here in this poll. The political advantage to Mexico would far outweigh any compensation, anyway. The only thing I can say on behalf of Mexico is that everything is on sale---except in the tourist areas where of course they have the prices jacked up to fleece the gringos.
The Mex. Peso was 11 to the dollar; now it is 19. With how the drug cartels had destroyed the Sinaloa region, places like Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco are at fire sale prices."Men of low degree are vanity, Men of high degree are a lie. " David
