Survey finds 70 percent support for deporting illegal immigrants

A strong majority of American voters want serious action taken to solve the illegal immigration problem – including 53 percent who say children born to illegal immigrant parents should not be automatic citizens, and 70% who say it’s important to locate and deport those residing in the U.S. illegally – according to a recent poll by Zogby International.

The poll was conducted August 20-23, surveyed 2,062 likely voters, and asked: The Constitution provides that all children born in the U.S. are automatically U.S. citizens regardless of their parents’ status. Should Congress pass an amendment to prevent children born in the U.S. from becoming citizens unless one of their parents is also a U.S. citizen?

A majority of respondents, 53 percent, said Congress should pass a law to prevent children born to non-citizen parents from being automatic citizens, and 39 percent said no such law should be passed.

An even stronger majority of independent voters, 58 percent , said yes to passing such a law, and 35% say no. Likewise, strong majorities of Tea Party supporters, 83 percent, and small business owners, 56 percent, say Congress needs to pass a law barring automatic citizenship for children born to illegal parents. Just 9 percent of Tea Party supporters and 35 percent of small business owners say no such law should be passed.

In addition, the poll asked: How important is it to develop a plan to stem the flow of illegal immigrants?

An incredible 92 percent of those responding said developing a plan to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the U.S. is important, including 74 percent who said it’s very important. Just seven percent said such a plan is not important.

Among Independents responding, 96 percent said it’s important, including 76 percent who said it’s very important. Just 5 percent said it is not important.

In addition, a very sizable 83 percent of Democrats said it’s important to develop a plan to stem the flow of illegal immigrants, and just 14 percent said it’s not important.

An overwhelming 99 percent of Tea Party supporters said stemming the flow of illegal immigrants is important, including 96 percent who said it’s very important. Less than one percent said it is not important.

In addition, 90 percent of small business owners said it’s important, including 77 percent who said it’s very important, and just nine percent who said it’s not important.

The poll further asked: How important is it to locate and deport those illegally in the country?

A 70 percent majority of respondents said it is important to deport those illegally in the country, including 45 percent who said it’s very important. Just 28 percent said it is not important to do so.

An even stronger majority of Independents responding, 77 percent, said it’s important to locate and deport illegal immigrants, and just 22 percent said it is not important.

In addition, 50 percent of Democratic voters said it is important to locate and deport illegal immigrants, and 47 percent said it is not important to do so.

The Zogby International poll was commissioned by The O'Leary Report newsletter. The Poll surveyed 2,062 likely voters August 20-23, and has a margin-of-error of plus-or-minus 2.2 percentage points. To view full poll results and crosstabs, go to www.OLearyReport.com.

There is nothing like a pro-amnesty President rubbing your nose in backdoor amnesty for the illegal who took your job or is sucking down your tax money.

    obama ignoring immigration laws

The situation is worsening for sure - is it time to discuss a plan to SECURE OUR BORDERS & ( hate to say this ) devise an amnesty plan that would encase only those that have been here for a long time, say before 2002 & a for sure deportation of all those after a certain year? How that would be documented? Could we trust this admin to follow thru?

In my community in Philadelphia Pa, we received a storm of illegals @2003-4, being dropped off by trucks with their suitcases. They all have numerous babies now and all collecting while the man sits home or has a job but lives around the corner.

No way you could trust this administration, or the illegals either. If they can get a green card worth $millions to them, they will spend $thousands to get whatever fake documents they need to prove they were here before 2002, even if they weren't.

Now each illegal, and each anchor baby they had, were charged $100,000 apiece for a green card, you might have a plan.

Absolutely not. This is one of the most corrupt administrations ever, bar none.

As far as granting any kind of amnesty. Why would we want those who have been breaking the laws the longest to have citizenship? That makes no sense. We want all illegal immigrants to self deport or be deported. There are way too many illegals from Mexico inside the US. No amnesty of any sort. Every illegal that is here is stealing a job from an American and when they have anchor babies then they are entitled to the rest.

    No amnesty of any sort

This potus needs to be charged with treason. Pure and simple

Suing Americans to aid and abet illegal immigrants??? Last straw there.

Sorry, but that would continue current path of making US a country of lawbreakers instead of a country of laws. We have too much of the former now. The ***holes who snuck in are a bunch of disprespectful takers, regardless of how they "contributed" to the economy. Confiscate their property to pay us back for the cost of locating them, the cost of due process to determine status, and the cost to ship them out.
