ALBANY — Education committees in the state House of Representatives and Senate are considering more than $300 million in additional higher education cuts for Fiscal Year 2011 that University System of Georgia Chancellor Erroll B. Davis directed the system’s 35 colleges and universities compile.

Davis was instructed to look for additional cuts of between 15 percent — suggested by Gov. Sonny Perdue — and 17 percent sought by the House.

In a preliminary draft drawn up by the Board of Regents of the university system for discussion purposes, Albany State University would be asked to make $3,657,949 in additional cuts, while Darton College would be responsible for $2,646,848 in reductions.

Albany State University President Everette Freeman said Monday evening he was not prepared to talk about specific cuts Davis may have recommended for the historically black university.
