The Amazing Disappearance of Winter due to Global Warming

    Andrew Thomas

In an urgent call to the media by the Union of Concerned Scientists http://www.ucsusa.org/action/ (composed primarily of "citizen scientists", i.e., political activists dedicated to promoting the Obama agenda on energy and nuclear disarmament) it was breathlessly announced that spring has arrived ten days earlier this year due to global warming. This was a stunning revelation to me, as I thought the seasons were caused by the Earth's tilt toward the Sun. http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjec ... sons.shtml I was intrigued by the premise that this group of obviously qualified authorities might believe that global warming has caused the Earth's axis to shift to the point that spring comes ten days early.

But alas, that wasn't the case. In an April 20 Reuters article on this proclamation, it was revealed that the winter season is apparently shrinking due to "spring creep". Oddly, there was no mention of a corresponding "summer creep", which logically should occur if the world is getting warmer. However, these are activist scientists, not logisticians. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100420/us_ ... spring_usa

As explained by one Concerned Scientist:

Ecological mismatches can be fatal when some species adapt to early warmth and others don't, according to Jake Weltzin of the U.S. Geological Survey.

Weltzin described a series of mysterious miscarriages by mares in the U.S. southeast that were caused by caterpillars that contained a chemical that made the pregnant horses miscarry.

Normally, the caterpillars would have been consumed by migrating birds, leaving none to fall from trees into the mares' grassy pastures. But the birds' migration was late, letting the caterpillars fall from trees and into the grass the mares were eating, Weltzin said.

After a little research, I found that Mr. Weltzin has made similar proclamations over the past decade or so. In fact, last spring he was quoted in a Seattle Times article stating the following: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/l ... ds11m.html

The birds used to arrive in Europe and nest in time for their chicks to take advantage of a seasonal caterpillar explosion. But the caterpillars now peak 16 days earlier. As a result, chicks are starving and some flycatcher populations have plummeted 90 percent.

"These mismatches in timing could be happening all over," said Jake Weltzin...

Mismatches, indeed. Are birds migrating later or caterpillars peaking earlier due to global warming? The narrative seems to creep like the spring.

More amazingly, the same 2009 article reported that spring "is about a week earlier than it was 50 years ago." Does that mean that winter is shrinking by three days each year? If true, by my calculation winter should disappear entirely by 2037.

Wow, that closely matches up with the IPCC scientists' report that the Himalayan glaciers will disappear by then. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/e ... 991177.ece Oh, but that was revealed in the Climategate scandal to be "voodoo science", conjured up to inflame the public with fear in order to promote a global warming political agenda. I'm sure the Concerned Scientists Union report is completely different.

Not so in CA. This has been the coldest wettest winter in decades in LA. Snow in the mountains last night and today. Ski season still going. No water shortage anymore either.

    FEELS LIKE JANUARY IN SOCAL!--------------------------------

Snow Summit Ski Resort, Big Bear Lake, CA

    April 21, 2010

    3-4 inches of new snow!

3 to 4 inches of new snow, and forecasts are calling for an additional 3-6 inches this tonight and tomorrow! These cold winter weather systems will be moving through today into tomorrow and clearing up by Friday. Mother Nature has already blessed Big Bear this winter season with record snowfall, and is adding just a little more snow this week to send us off right! The weekend is looking fabulous with new snow, sunny skies, and temps in the 50's! Plan on celebrating this epic winter season with us now at Snow Summit.

Snow Summit is open daily through April 25th and Bear Mountain is closed for the 2009-2010 ski and snowboard season. Bear Mountain Season Passes are valid at Snow Summit. The type of season pass still applies to the Snow Summit offer. Snow Summit's Chairs 2, 7 & 8 are open giving guests access to nearly the entire mountain with the exception of the Family Park runs which are closed. If Big Bear receives several inches of fresh snow as forecasted, then more lifts will open for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Come on up and experience a fun spring day on the slopes.

There is a great gulf betwen the plausible reality that earth is getting warmer----either temporarily or permanently----and some of the ideas that "progressives" come up with to prevent it. Around here, our state's environmental groups have gotten legislation through to require the six largest metro. areas to come up with a transportation and development plan to reduce greenhouse gases.

A lot of these gases come from manufacturing processes---but they are going to go whole hog after auto drivers and try to get people to live in small condos and ride bicycles. Well, I guess we were a quarter century late in getting to 1984!

The same state law also requires these same six regions to adopt a plan for "population growth."

So, if you want to see what a progressive society will look like, just come here. Please don't inhale the air unless you want to get high.

Three snowfalls in Atlanta this year. Usually we will get a dusting approximately every 5 years or so. The coldest temperatures I can remember. Heating bills through the roof.

March 2010 is warmest on record, NOAA reports

    April 15, 2010 | 12:44 pm

Climate science doubter Sen. James M. Inhofe (R-Okla.), whose family built an igloo in the capital to mock global warming, might want to check in with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

That federal agency reported that average land and sea surface temperatures made March the warmest on record and helped push the January-March period to the fourth warmest on record. (The data go back to 1880.)

A cold snap propelled by the Arctic oscillation that included ample snowfall struck the East Coast and areas of northern Europe this winter. Skeptics of climate science used the weather to poke fun at Al Gore and scientists who warn that manufactured greenhouse gases are warming the planet, potentially shifting climate patterns worldwide.

Here in Houston we had one of the all time coldest winters in History. This was also the first time it has ever snowed 4 times in one winter and we also recorded the earliest snow in history. These global warming fools just don't get it that we all are not buying into this garbage they are selling.

NOAA is not a credible source. They have been part of the Climate Change scam along with NASA, because like ALL government agencies, they are not objective......they are subject to political pressure. If the US Army can be cowed into allowing an avowed Jihadist to receive a commission as an officer, and then actually spew his hate on post at public gatherings and suffer no consequences until he murders dozens of people, any government agency can be shimmied into taking any position the leadership determines. Think of the CDC and the swine flu pandemic. Anyone trust what the CDC says?
