19 Democratic Senators Take On Hobby Lobby's Right to Religious Freedom

19 Democratic Senators Take On Hobby Lobby's Right to Religious Freedom

19 Democratic Senators will file a legal brief on Tuesday morning which argues that arts and crafts chain store Hobby Lobby does not have protection under the First Amendment to exempt it from birth control mandates enacted by Obamacare.

The store, whose owners say the mandate infringes upon their religious beliefs, is specifically challenging Obamacare’s mandate that Hobby Lobby should subsidize employees’ access to the morning after pill and the IUD.
A lower court has already sided with Hobby Lobby, ruling that the 1993 Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) protects the store from having to pay for employees’ contraception.

Yahoo News is reporting that the nineteen Senators, led by Washington Senator Patty Murray, are arguing that the RFRA specifically protects individuals and nonprofits; not for-profit organizations.

Murray is planning to take to the Senate floor on Tuesday morning with prepared remarks which explicitly link Hobby Lobby’s case to what Democrats call Republicans’ “War on Women.”

    Via Yahoo News:

“Allowing a woman’s boss to call the shots about her access to birth control should be inconceivable to all Americans in this day and age, and takes us back to a place in history when women had no voice or choice.”

When are people going to realize that the most pervasive “war” being waged by politicians is not the GOP’s “War on Women” but instead the Democrat’s “War on Private Business”? Hobby Lobby is a family-owned business which employs 23,000 people across the country.

This is a company that should be heralded as a model for growing business in a down-trending economy, not punished for its management’s religious beliefs.

Patty Murray used foreign nationals to go door to do to sign up "voters" with a language issue during the last election. English is still the requirement for citizenship and non citizens voting in a federal election is illegal, so just who was Ms. Murray getting signed up to vote for her?

    From Yahoo news
Patty Murray and The other senators who signed the brief are: Max Baucus (D-Mont.), Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Benjamin Cardin (D-Md.), Richard Durbin (D-Ill.), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), Tim Johnson (D-SD), Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), Carl Levin (D-Mich.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Barbara Mikulsi (D-Md.), Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.), Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).
