Seven wounded in Kansas City rolling gun battle that spanned several blocks

A rolling gun battle overnight that spanned eight blocks in Kansas City Sunday left seven victims wounded, with one in critical condition, police said.

Officers responded at 2:18 a.m. to reports of shots fired near an intersection in front of an elementary school, according to KSHB.

Cops arrived to find several suspects shooting at each other from moving vehicles.

One officer fired a shot, and the gun battle led to an accident involving three cars, the Kansas City Star reported.

The firefight spread through eight blocks before coming to an end. Seven people were treated for gunshot wounds, police said. One is in critical condition; the other six, including one who was shot by police, are expected to survive.

No victims have been identified and no charges have been announced. It remains unknown what started the battle.

No officers were injured.

The Kansas City Police Department did not return messages.
