Two Democrats have been arrested in corruption charges by the FBI. One is the new mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina and the other on the west coast is CA State Senator in San Francisco.

    East Coast:

Less than six months on the job, the mayor of Charlotte was arrested Wednesday and accused of accepting more than $48,000 in bribes from undercover FBI agents posing as businessmen wanting to do work with North Carolina's largest city. (March 26)

CHARLOTTE — The mayor of Charlotte was arrested on public corruption charges Wednesday, accused of accepting about $48,000 in bribes from undercover FBI agents posing as businessmen who wanted to do business in the city.
Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon, who has been in office 114 days, was arrested by FBI agents Wednesday.
Cannon, 47, faces several charges including theft and bribery.
The arrest follows an undercover investigation that began in August 2010. Authorities allege Cannon solicited and accepted cash from the agents who were posing as real estate developers and investors.
Cannon, a Charlotte native, allegedly accepted bribes in exchange for the privileges of his position as an elected official, whether as mayor, mayor pro tem or a city council member.
If convicted of all charges, he faces 20 years in prison and more than $1 million in fines.
Cannon was elected mayor in November, replacing Anthony Foxx, who was named Transportation Secretary by President Barack Obama.
The FBI said Cannon accepted money from agents on five separate occasions. The last was on Feb. 21, 2014. He is accused of accepting $20,000 in cash at the mayor's office. The exchanges began in January 2013, according to the Department of Justice.
In total, Cannon accepted about $48,000 in cash, airline tickets, a hotel room and use of a luxury apartment, the FBI said. Some of the money, documents say, included cash to fund a business Cannon said he wanted to fund called HERS, a feminine hygiene product to be sold in the United States. Source

    West Coast:

SAN FRANCISCO -- State Sen. Leland Yee, one of the most powerful Democratic politicians in California, was arrested Wednesday morning in a major series of federal raids in the Bay Area targeting corruption and gang activity, CBS San Francisco reported.
Federal agents arrested Lee at his home in San Francisco Wednesday morning and drove him to the federal courthouse while his offices in Sacramento were raided as well.
An FBI affidavit in support of a criminal complaint against Yee and 25 other people reveals the lawmaker is accused of conspiracy to deal firearms and wire fraud.
Yee performed "official acts" in exchange for donations from undercover FBI agents, as he sought to dig himself out of a $70,000 debt incurred during a failed San Francisco mayoral bid, according to court documents.
Yee is also accused of accepting $10,000 in January 2013 from an undercover agent in exchange for his making a call to the California Department of Public Health in support of a contract under consideration with the agency.Source

Another day of corruption in the Democrat party!

    CONTINUING DISINFORMATION BY THE MEDIA

Posted on March 26, 2014 by Matt

Today, the gun rights community, especially those in California, received some Fan-Freaking-Tastic news! California State Senator Leland Yee (D) was arrested by the FBI on corruption and bribery charges, and has we found later in the day, for conspiring to illegally import and distribute firearms, allegedly including machine guns and “rocket launchers”. Apparently, it has been an ongoing investigation which culminated in the service of multiple arrest and search warrants today. Arrested in conjunction with Yee was a Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow, a San Francisco gangster with (alleged) ties to the triads, who coincidentally has prior criminal convictions involving firearms and violence.
This is a big story in this neck of the woods, and it is gathering national attention. Yee is the third California democrat senator to be arrested on corruption charges just this year. And while that fact has been reported in many of the news stories, what none of the stories are mentioning is to me the most ironic factoid about these arrests.
Yee is a rabid anti-gunner and has a long history of being an enemy of the second amendment. He has authored, co-authored or sponsored nearly half of the anti-gun bills that have been floated in CA (which sadly is a great number of bills) since his being elected to his seat. This man, who has publicly assaulted the rights of us, the law abiding gun owners in the state, is arrested in conjunction with a gangster with a history of firearms related convictions. Boy, aint karma a bitch!

Quite pertinent excerpt from the warrant affidavit

However, while I find that little tidbit quite newsworthy, apparently the “real” news sources do not. The reports have discussed his arrest, his political affiliation, his current bid for CA Secretary of State, and many other aspects of this story, but all of the major news sources are avoiding his affiliation as a “common sense gun law” supporter. I wonder why they would neglect to report that? Could it possibly be damaging to the anti-gun cause? Could it possibly have something to do with the fact that he is being charged with conspiracy to illegally import and distribute firearms?!?
Here is an excerpt from the AP story that was featured on Yahoo News
“Yee, 65, is best known publicly for his efforts to strengthen open records, government transparency and whistleblower protection laws, including legislation to close a loophole in state public records laws after the CSU Stanislaus Foundation refused to release its $75,000 speaking contract with former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin in 2010.”
Odd, no mention of his numerous efforts at passing tougher gun control. Maybe that was just the AP. How about the story in the Sacramento Bee, the only newspaper for the capital city
Yee, a child psychologist, has served in the Assembly and the Senate and is now running for secretary of state, with another state senator, Alex Padilla of Los Angeles, his chief Democratic foe. Yee has carried a wide variety of legislation during his career and is best known for his measures dealing with violence in video games and his advocacy for open records.
I have looked and looked, and not a single news story that I found about this incident mentions, even in passing, Yee’s history as an advocate of stricter gun control. Some will argue that this omission does not constitute “disinformation”, but I beg to differ. Failing to report all relevant information is the same as lying. By listing his “accomplishments”, they are trying to minimize the damage. By failing to point out the blatant hypocrisy of his actions, calling for gun control while being tied to convicted gun crime offenders, they are further attempting to minimize the damage his arrest could have.
Update: Thanks to Ken Leung for providing the link to the warrant affidavit
