CHICAGO (STMW) — Two people were killed and at least 25 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago between Friday afternoon and Monday morning.

The most recent fatal shooting happened Sunday afternoon in the Albany Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

A gunman wearing a baseball hat and a dark jacket shot a 23-year-old man in the abdomen in the 4800 block of North Albany about 2:45 p.m.

The suspect took off on a bicycle after the shooting, according to Chicago Police.

He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:21 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. A 26-year-old man shot in the torso was taken in critical condition to Masonic Medical Center.

The weekend’s first shooting, another homicide, happened about 6 p.m. Friday in the Belmont Gardens neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
A 24-year-old woman was sitting in a car parked in the 2700 block of North Kilbourn when another car pulled up and someone got out and shot her in the chest, according to Chicago Police.
She was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
The medical examiner’s office withheld the names of both victims Monday morning pending family notification.
Most recently, a woman was shot early Monday in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side. The 20-year-old was shot in the chest about 5:15 a.m. in the 800 block of North Kostner, according to preliminary information from police. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, but her condition was not known. Additional details were not immediately available.
About two hours earlier in a separate Humboldt Park incident, a 29-year-old man was shot. He was riding in the backseat of an SUV going south in the 1200 block of North Homan just after 3 a.m. when a black car pulled up and someone inside fired shots, police said. The man suffered a graze wound to his back and was taken in the SUV to Norwegian American Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
About 2:45 a.m., a 17-year-old girl was wounded in a Rogers Park neighborhood shooting on the North Side. She suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back in the 7100 block of North Clark, police said. The girl was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where her condition was stabilized. The shooting may have been a drive-by attack, but additional details were not immediately available.
Sunday night, a man was shot during a robbery in the West Side Austin neighborhood. The 25-year-old was standing in an alley in the 200 block of South Cicero about 11 p.m. when an armed male got out of a dark-colored minivan nearby and announced a robbery, police said. It was not immediately known what was stolen. The man ran away and, as he was running, the robber opened fire and the man suffered a graze wound to the wrist, police said. He was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where his condition was stabilized.
At least 20 other people were wounded in shootings across Chicago between 6 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Monday.
Additionally, Area South detectives were questioning a person of interest early Monday after an off-duty Chicago Police officer was shot in the leg in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the Far South Side, police said. He was taken in fair-to-serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Saturday night, an off-duty Chicago Police officer shot a man who hit him with a bat Saturday night in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side, police said. The officer was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with an injury to his arm, while the man was shot in the abdomen and taken in critical condition to Masonic Medical Center.
Also, 7-year-old Devon Lofton accidentally shot himself in the chest while playing inside his home in Englewood’s 6700 block of South Aberdeen about 4 p.m. Sunday, police said. The boy was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he later died.

At least 7 wounded in Chicago shootings, including 4 injured near day care center

At least six people have been shot since Wednesday morning in Chicago, including four people shot outside of a Back of the Yards day care center as children were taking a nap inside.

Glennetta Jackson was on her way to pick up her 4-year-old granddaughter, Deziray, from the Computer Preschool Academy on the 5400 block of South Loomis shortly before 2 p.m. when she spotted yellow police tape near the school. She was told bullets from a gunfight near Sherman Park across from the school made their way to the preschool.

"You pull up and see yellow tape when you're going to pick her up and you're going to fear the worst," said Jackson, 41. "I'm fine now because I know what's going on in the city."
Roslyn Thomas, the owner of the school, said 30 preschool children were napping at the time of the shooting. She said one of the bullets struck a window of the school but the window did not break. She said the shooting involved two vehicles with one shooting at the other as they drove past the school. No one in the school was injured, Thomas said.

"My children didn't even wake up, they were woken up 20 minutes later. Only me and my teachers were awake. We called the police," said Thomas.
Deziray said she heard a loud banging at the time of the shooting which she believed to be a large truck. She later heard that "somebody got shot."
"I didn't know what happened," Deziray said. "My teacher said somebody got shot on the outside."
Jackson said she was relieved that no one inside the school was injured but said the fact that the shooting happened so close to where there were children showed the brazenness of the violence in the city.
"I think the madness has to stop, they have no regard for anyone, not for mothers or kids. You're going to have a shoot out in a park across from the little ones?" said Jackson, who gave credit to the police for quickly showing up and trying to protect the community.
"I think we have to end it (the violence). It's up to the people themselves to want to stop it. I've never seen this much in my life."
The shooting left three men and a teenage boy wounded, one of them critically, in the attack, police said.
The four went to Holy Cross Hospital after being shot, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman, correcting earlier information that the shooting may have taken place in the 4000 block of South Kedzie Avenue in Brighton Park.
A 20-year-old man who was shot in the chest was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, Sweeney said, correcting earlier information about the victims' ages. A 16-year-old boy shot in both arms also was transferred to Mount Sinai, where his condition was stabilized. A 24-year-old who was shot in the hand and a 20-year-old who suffered a graze wound to the wrist had their conditions stabilized at Holy Cross.
The men and the boy were in a vehicle when another vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired shots, hitting the four, Sweeney said.
In the Rogers Park neighborhood on the North Side, a man was shot in the head in the 7400 block of North Ridge Boulevard at 4:13 p.m., said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a police spokeswoman. The man was taken to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition.
At about 10 a.m., a 32-year-old man was wounded in the 3100 block of South Kedzie Avenue in the Little Village neighborhood, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a police spokeswoman.
The man was in a vehicle when another vehicle pulled up and someone inside began shooting, Lemmon said. The man was struck in the cheek and managed to drive off, Lemmon said.
As the man was driving, he collided with another vehicle but managed to get to Mount Sinai Hospital, Lemmon said. The man was in good condition, police said.
Earlier, a 28-year-old man was grazed in the forehead in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood, police said.
He was in the 2300 block of West Cullerton Street when he was shot at 6:40 a.m. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
In a shooting incident that left no one wounded, police say two people fled in a vehicle from the South Side to the North Side after an altercation that may have involved shots fired in Englewood.
The shooting was reported around 10 a.m. in the 7000 block of South Loomis Street in the Englewood neighborhood, according to police. While police said earlier that two people were shot, they later said neither person was wounded.
The incident began when the people in the car, a 15-year-old boy and a 34-year-old man, were driving when another car pulled up and someone began shooting at them, police said.
The vehicle managed to get onto the inbound Dan Ryan Expressway and then northbound Lake Shore Drive, according to Illinois State Police and Chicago police officials. A flash message was broadcast looking for the vehicle, which had out-of-state license plates, officials said.
The vehicle then drove to the Foster Avenue exit in Edgewater, where police responded, officials said. No injuries were reported. The incident was gang-related, police said.
No closures were reported, according to Illinois State Police.
