A 19-year-old gang member was arrested this morning after Madera County anti-gang officers found 350 pounds of Russian military ammunition at his Madera home.

Agents with the Madera County Gang Enforcement searched of the man’s home on the 1000 block of Dellavalle Avenue on Wednesday afternoon and uncovered 4,400 rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm Russian-made military ammunition sealed in 88 individual packages of 50 rounds each.

Agents also found 30 grams of marijuana, along with 40 grams of methamphetamine packaged for sale, drug packaging materials and scales. Agents said the man may have been smuggling drugs from Mexico.

The man was arrested about 10 a.m. this morning as he returned to his home, said Erica Stuart, Madera County sheriff's spokeswoman.

The suspect is on probation for a 2009 arrest on drug and weapons charges, the Sheriff's Department said.
