Magnitude 4.6 Earthquake Strikes Along California / Nevada Border Near Death Valley National Park

(CBS SF) – The U.S. Geological Survey reported that an earthquake measuring magnitude 4.6 struck along the California / Nevada border near Death Valley National Park Friday evening.

According to the USGS automated seismograph alert network, the quake hit at 6:29 p.m. about 11 miles northeast of Scotty’s Castle, at a depth of 11 miles. The epicenter is about 140 miles east of Fresno and about 130 miles northwest of Las Vegas.


Visitors to the USGS website who are in the park and in the Ridgecrest area said they felt the quake.
