Cops: 4 killed, 1 hurt in West Seattle shooting

Police say shooter killed herself, Seattle newspapers report

SEATTLE — Seattle police say at least four people were killed and one injured in a shooting in West Seattle's Highland Park neighborhood and the shooter had killed herself, Seattle newspapers reported.

Officers said they discovered four people dead inside a house about 2 p.m.; another woman, who did not have life-threatening injuries was taken to a nearby hospital.

Police spokesman Sean Whitcomb said officers arrived at the scene about 1:30 Thursday and could still hear shots being fired. One wounded woman was able to run out of the house, Whitcomb said.

"The person that we believe was involved in the shooting was found inside the house," Whitcomb told the Post-Intelligencer.

Police said someone from inside the home had called 911, alerting them that their "grandmother was mentally ill" and reported the shooting, according to the Seattle Times.

Neighbor Bobby Miller told KOMO News that police had showed up almost immediately and she heard gunfire. She said she also heard screaming.

A four-block area in the 9400 block of 14th Avenue Southwest was shutdown, police said. Students at two elementary schools were staying within the school grounds until police cleared the area, NBC News reported.
