5 students stabbed, suspect killed on California university campus

    Published November 04, 2015 FoxNews.com

A suspect stabbed five people on a university campus in central California Wednesday morning before police shot and killed him, authorities said Wednesday.

Two of the victims attacked at the University of California, Merced, were taken by helicopter to hospitals for treatment, spokeswoman Lorena Anderson said. The three other victims were treated locally, she said.

Student Alex Lopez was heading to his class, when he realized something was wrong on campus.

"I was listening to a podcast, and there was a break in talking, and I just hear a gunshot," he said.

He said police and first responders flooded the scene.

"You see this stuff all over the news and stuff and you see it happen to all these other schools," but you don't expect it to happen at your school, said Lopez, 21.

Few details about the stabbing were immediately available, but the incident occurred at around 8 a.m. local time in the Classroom and Office Building, KCRA.com reported. The suspect was reportedly apprehended.

The rural school is about 120 miles south of Sacramento. The campus in the city of Merced opened a decade ago -- the first new school built in the University of California system since 1965, the university says on its website.

Attacker identified as UC Merced freshman

Sheriff confirms identity as 18-year-old Faisal Mohammad
Santa Clara student was shot and killed by campus police
Motive for attack that wounded four still unclear

The UC Merced student who wounded four people in a stabbing spree at the campus has been identified as Faisal Mohammad, a freshman student from Santa Clara.

Merced Couty Sheriff Vern Warnke confirmed the identity of the 18-year-old student to the Sun-Star early Thursday.
Mohammad was shot and killed by UC Merced police just after 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning as he ran from the two-story classroom building where investigators said his violent spree began.

Warnke said investigators, including the FBI, were still trying to determine the motive for Mohammad’s attack, which wounded two students, a female student advisor and a construction worker who was on campus for a remodeling project. The four suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Little information about Mohammad was immediately available, other than he turned 18 in late October.

Investigators believe Mohammad entered a second-floor classroom as class was starting Wednesday and struggled with a male student, who was stabbed.

Byron Price, a 31-year-old construction worker, was leading a crew in a nearby room when he heard the commotion and went to intervene. Warnke described Price’s actions as heroic.

“Without him, the first victim could have been a lot worse off, or even dead,” he said.

Price drew the suspect’s attention and was slashed around the waist during the confrontation. Price’s co-workers drove him to Mercy Medical Center where he was treated and later released.

Detectives believe Mohammad then left the building and stabbed another male student outside. He then found the student advisor sitting on a bench and stabbed her twice, officials said.

Other than Price, the names of the victims have not been released.

Two university police officers chased Mohammad to a bridge on the campus, where he was shot and killed. The identities of those officers have not been released. One of the officers was placed on an automatic three-day leave from the department, a standard protocol in officer-involved shootings.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations and U.S. Department of Homeland Security are involved in the investigation.

Classes at the campus northeast of Merced were canceled Thursday. Chancellor Dorothy Leland said activities on the campus would resume Friday.

This story will be updated as soon as more information becomes available.

So Faisal Mohammad just went on a knife attack similar to the ones in Israel and had to be stopped by legal gun owning police officers!

'He was having fun': Student who stabbed four on California university campus identified

    Published November 05, 2015 FoxNews.com

The student who stabbed four people on the campus of UC Merced was identified Thursday as 18-year-old Faisal Mohammad from Santa Clara, Calif., the university confirms to Fox News.

"He had a smile on his face, he was having fun," a construction worker who helped stop the attack told CBS 47.

Campus police shot and killed Mohammad, a freshman computer science & engineering major, after Wednesday's attack. The four victims are expected to survive.

Authorities are investigating a motive. They say Mohammad was armed with a hunting knife, and that its blade was 8 to 10 inches long.

The construction worker ran into the classroom to stop the attack, saying he'd initially thought it was a fight. Byron Price, 31, was working on remodeling a waiting room when he heard a commotion and rushed to check on it.

Price told CBS 47, "It was a really big knife and he was swinging it down so I figured if I was on the ground and my feet were at him, he could get my legs and not my body."

"I really believe he's a hero here. I think he prevented this first student from dying," Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke said.

"The cops on campus, oh my gosh, praise them because they stopped a threat, but this first guy, he stopped a death."

Two of the injured had to be airlifted to nearby hospitals, and the other two were treated on campus. The incident began when the assailant used the knife to stab two people in a second-floor room around the start of an 8 a.m. class.

Warnke said the suspect fled the room after attacking the construction worker and ran down two flights of stairs to the outside where he stabbed a school employee sitting on a bench. The suspect fled the building. He was shot and killed by pursuing campus police on a nearby foot bridge.

All the victims were conscious when paramedics reached them, Assistant Vice Chancellor Patti Waid said.

Lensy Maravilla, 19, a first-year student, said she was in a biology class on the second floor of the same building, when a female student ran in.

Maravilla said the student "was crying hysterically and came in and said that she had seen somebody get stabbed, or slashed, in the throat and she ran."

The main road to enter the campus remained closed to outside traffic Wednesday night and classes were canceled until Friday at the university, which is about 120 miles south of Sacramento in the farm-rich San Joaquin Valley. Police were allowing students who live on campus to come and go, but anxious parents waited in their vehicles at the end of the dark roadway about a half mile from the campus entrance.

Among them were Larry and Yen Little, who drove about 110 miles from their home in Elk Grove to pick up their daughter Dana. Larry Little said he knows incidents of campus violence are rampant.

"I knew someday it might, but I was just hoping it wouldn't happen here. It's a small campus out in the country," said Little.

"Thank god the guy didn't have a gun, shooting people, killing them."

Stabbings involving multiple victims on college campuses have not raised as much alarm as mass shootings since the attacks do not usually result in as many deaths or injuries. Several U.S. colleges have been the site of violent attacks involving bladed weapons.

A student at Morgan State University in Maryland was charged in March with slashing two other students with a pocket knife outside a campus dining hall. In 2013, a 20-year-old student at a Texas community college wounded at least 14 people during a building-to-building attack.

The campus with about 6,000 students in the city of Merced opened a decade ago and is the newest one in the University of California system.

It was erected in the state's farm belt in response to the burgeoning enrollment in the nine other University of California campuses. Regents also felt the mainly agricultural region was unrepresented by higher education.

Applications to University of California campuses are due at the end of November. Chancellor Dorothy Leland sought to reassure families that their children would be safe if they ended up at UC Merced, which she said "may still be small in its study body but is large in its sense of community."

"This was a tragic accident, a tragic event, OK? But the person who caused this event will no longer be able to cause an event in the future. Their children are safe here," Leland said.

UC Merced Stabbing Suspect Was Upset Over Study Group Eviction: Sheriff

by PHIL HELSEL and TRACY CONNOR

Police: Merced Stabbing Not Related to Terrorism 0:53

A college freshman who stabbed four people at the University of California Merced before being killed by police apparently carried out the attack because he was upset over being kicked out of a study group, officials said Thursday.

Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke said authorities discovered a two-page "script" while conducting an autopsy on suspect Faisal Mohammad, the 18-year-old freshman who carried out the attack.

"He had gotten kicked out of a study group and was upset with one of the students, and apparently took his anger to the extreme level," Warnke said.

Two students, a construction worker who interrupted the first stabbing, and a student adviser were stabbed in the attack that began in a classroom at around 8 a.m. Wednesday, officials said. All are expected to survive.

Investigators also found zip ties, a night vision scope, a safety hammer used to break glass, rolls of duct tape and two bags of petroleum jelly in a backpack left at the scene, officials said Thursday.

According to the two-page note, Mohammad apparently planned to use the zip ties to handcuff students in the class and he hoped to ambush a police officer and take his or her gun, Warnke said.

The two bags of petroleum jelly discovered in a backpack were to be spread on the floor in an attempt to create "a kind of a slip and slide" to hinder anyone entering the class, he said.

Mohammad stabbed a student inside the classroom, then attacked a construction worker who heard the sound of a disturbance and investigated, police said. He then ran down a flight of stairs and stabbed another student and a student adviser, police said.

UC Merced police fatally shot Mohammad after he turned toward officers with the weapon, police said. "His plan went haywire because people fought back," Warnke said.

"The fortunate part is that we've got some very brave students, we have a very brave construction worker that stopped this from going on," Warnke said. "He got so befuddled at the activities that had happened it took his script away from him and I think that's what happened."

Investigators found zip-tie handcuffs, a night vision scope, a safety hammer used to break glass, rolls of duct tape and two bags of petroleum jelly in a backpack left at the scene, officials said.

After the attack in the classroom, the plan was to go elsewhere on campus, including a dormitory, and cause of "tragedies," Warnke said. Some fellow students were specifically named in the note, he said.

The FBI is assisting in the investigation. Warnke said there is no indication in any evidence reviewed so far of connections to terrorist groups, or of a political or religious motivation.

"There is still nothing to indicate anything, and I mean anything, that this is other than a teenage boy that got upset with fellow classmates and took it to the extreme," he said.

Mohammad was a freshman computer science and engineering major from Santa Clara, a Northern California community in the Bay Area. Mohammad graduated from Santa Clara's Wilcox High School in June, officials said.

Alexa Lino, who worked on the high school newspaper with Mohammad, described him as a "very quiet and reserved guy."

"He'd always sit in the back of the room. But when you talked to him, he was nice and willing to help," she said. "This is honestly just unexpected."

This is normal to muslims - the cell phones found recently of EU migrants shows video of themselves beating, stabbing, shooting each other. How sick it is to teach children, young teens such dangerous and hateful ideology - added to that is the inbreeding caused mental issues too.

They should not be allowed to spread this behaviour to other countries. If they desire to continue life in such a manner, let them stay in their countries that condone and fail to correct thru education more acceptable teachings.

Campus Stabber Planned to ‘Praise Allah’ and Behead Someone During Attack
    by Debra Heine
    November 6, 2015 - 10:13 pm

UC Merced stabber Faisal Mohammad carried a handwritten manifesto that included the names of his targets, a vow “to cut someone’s head off” and as many as five reminders to “praise Allah,” but law enforcement authorities insist that neither terrorism nor religion were motives in the attack.

According to Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke, Mohammad indicated in his manifesto that he was upset because he had been kicked out of a study group.

“There was nothing to indicate he was doing this because of Allah, or because he was going to be rewarded with 72 virgins, or because of ties to a terror group,” Warnke told FoxNews.com. “He appeared to be a devout Muslim, on the strong side of the belief.”

The manifesto has not been released, but Warnke expects it to be within the next few days.

Mohammad’s intended bloodbath began around 8 a.m.,when he burst into his classroom with an 8-inch hunting knife. Police said it would have continued – and possibly claimed lives – if he hadn’t been interrupted by a construction team, and then shot dead by police.

“There was a gruesome statement he made about wanting to cut someone’s head off and kill two people with one bullet, and he planned to shoot the police,” Warnke said. “He did not have a firearm with him and didn’t seem to have a lot of experience with firearms because he thought he could kill two people with one bullet. He reminded himself in the list to raise the gun slowly. He scripted everything out in chronological order.”

So to sum up: Mohammad planned to repeatedly “praise Allah” throughout his knife attack (which happened to coincide with the stabbing intifada that has been going on in Israel), cut off someone’s head, and lure the police into an ambush — all while smiling like a maniac.

But he didn’t have an official ISIS membership card or mention the 72 virgins in his manifesto — so no terrorism here. Just an “angry young man.”

Oh yeah — one more thing.

The weird smiling. It has its roots in Muhammad’s teachings: Ibn Taymiyyah, quoting the prophet of Islam, said: annal dahooq al-Qattaal. English: I am the one who smiles when he kills.
    Another Hadith states:

…I will put the sword into the sheath and the chest, I will not fear anybody and I will smile when I kill and that wherever there is any sign of human or animal footsteps (i.e. life) my sultan (authority) will reach there. (2)
