SB2040 Hearing Monday

Call Senators for Mandatory E-Verify

On Monday, April 4, 2011 the Senate Judiciary Committee will take up SB2040, a gutted E-Verify bill. Originally, the bill would have required all employers to use E-Verify. However, Judiciary Committee Chair Anitere Flores amended the bill to deem E-Verify a voluntary option. E-Verify is already optional for employers so SB2040 does nothing to prevent illegal aliens from obtaining Florida jobs.

The E-Verify provision in the current Senate bill SB2040 ("Unauthorized Immigrants") is so grossly deficient the E-Verify language should be considered unacceptable by all Floridians. You should pressure Senators to abandon SB2040 E-Verify language and support Senate adoption of the excellent E-Verify provisions of House bill HB7089.

Hearing:

•FLIMEN Legislator Director Jack Oliver will testify at the Florida Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday, April 4, 2011, 3:15 - 5:15 PM.

•You are encouraged to watch the hearing live online at: http://www.wfsu.org/flashwebcasts/web3.php.

•FLIMEN will testify in opposition to SB 318 (Postsecondary Student Fees), a bill providing college tuition subsidy to illegal alien students. Commonly known as in-state tuition or the 'DREAM ACT,' SB318 takes college slots away citizen students and Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) students to give those slots to illegal alien students. Defeated about four times previously in Florida and at least four times at the federal level, this bill needs to die quickly.

•The staff analysis of SB2040 and SB318 are at pgs 262-286.
