On Saturday, people came out in mass to support immigrant rights. The nationwide May Day rallies drew tens of thousands of protesters—the largest turnouts since 2006, when anger over the Sensenbrenner Bill brought out more than 1 million protesters across the U.S.

In San Francisco, about 2,000 people gathered at Civic Center Plaza. Chicago had about 8,000 protesters by police count, but organizers estimate about 20,000 marched. Elsewhere, about 25,000 gathered in Dallas, an estimated 5,000 rallied in Atlanta, about 3,000 marched in Boston and 5,000 in Milwaukee. In Arizona, where SB 1070 was signed into law last week, police estimated a crowd of about 7,000 in Tuscon.

The L.A. Times is reporting that L.A.’s May Day immigration rally was the nation’s largest with 60,000 people walking through downtown Los Angeles:

“The marchers also included African American union members, Korean drummers dressed in colorful traditional garb and even a white educator hoisting a sign that read “Gringos for Immigrants’ Rights.â€
