    DHS report warned last week of call for 'burning the embassy down' in Cairo

    Fox News has obtained a three-page intelligence report showing that two days before the deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya, a statement incited "sons of Egypt" to pressure America to release the so-called blind sheikh "even if it requires burning the embassy down with everyone in it."

    The web statement, apparently posted on Sept. 9, was in reference to the embassy in Egypt. It preceded a throng of demonstrators breaching the U.S. Embassy wall in Cairo, supposedly in protest over an anti-Islam film. Obama administration officials claim that attackers in Libya then took their cue from Cairo and seized the opportunity to attack the consulate in Benghazi.

    Though the administration's version of events is still evolving, the three-page Department of Homeland Security intelligence report further highlights potential threats that were being picked up before last week's attack.

    The DHS report, released on Sept. 11, said an "unidentified user" on an Arabic-language forum posted the statement "inciting Egyptians to target the U.S. Embassy, indicating the U.S. Embassy shouldn't remain in Egypt" until Omar Abdel-Rahman, also known as the blind sheikh, is released. Abdel-Rahman, who played a role in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and other attacks, is serving a life sentence in U.S. prison.

    The DHS document described the source of the warning as "fairly reliable."

    The Sept. 9 statement said "the time has come for a strong movement from you, O sons of Egypt, to release the detained" sheikh. "Let your slogan be: No to the American Embassy in Egypt until our detained sheikh is released."

    It continued: "Starting now, let the faithful among you form follow-up committees in charge of taking the necessary measures to force America to release the sheikh -- even if it requires burning the embassy down with everyone in it."

    In addition to the threat over the sheikh, Reuters reported earlier this week that a U.S. cable on Sept. 10 warned the U.S. Embassy in Cairo of possible violence over the anti-Islam film.

    Asked about that alleged warning, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney stressed Tuesday that everything is "under investigation in terms of what precipitated the attacks."

    Meanwhile, lawmakers raised concern Wednesday that the Obama administration might actually be considering the sheikh's release. Several Republican chairmen of top House committees wrote a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton referencing a Breitbart.com report claiming the State Department was "actively negotiating" with Egypt's president about transferring the blind sheikh to Egyptian custody.

    State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland denied the report.
    She said "to my knowledge" the issue of the sheikh's custody hasn't "come up" since the Egyptian president's election to office.

    But House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers, Homeland Security Committee Chairman Peter King and others wrote to Holder and Clinton saying they were "concerned" about the reports.

    "If these reports are true, such considerations would be extremely disconcerting as release of this convicted terrorist should not happen for any reason," they wrote. "The blind sheikh inspired the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center, ordered the 1997 massacre of Western tourists at Luxor, Egypt, and issued the Islamic religious ruling that Osama bin Laden relied upon to justify the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. ...

    "While considerations regarding the blind sheikh's release would be disturbing in any context, they are particularly alarming given recent events. The 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks was marked by the assassination of America's ambassador to Libya and an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Egypt. The violence in Egypt has been attributed, in part, to that government's demands for the blind sheikh's release. Succumbing to the demands of a country whose citizens threaten our embassy and the Americans serving in it would send a clear message that acts of violence will be responded to with appeasement rather than strength."

    They urged the administration to keep Abdel-Rahman in the U.S., warning that releasing him would be seen as "a sign of weakness."

    CAIRO – Egypt's president-elect Mohammed Morsi has vowed to free the blind sheik jailed in the U.S. for a plot to blow up New York City landmarks.

    In his first public speech addressing tens of thousands of mostly Islamist supporters, Morsi promised Saturday to work to free Omar Abdel-Rahman, the spiritual leader of men convicted in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

    He also promised to free detained Egyptian protesters facing military tribunals.

    Obama Negotiating Release of Omar Abdel-Rahman

    By: streiff (Diary) |
    September 18th, 2012

    For those of you who don’t know, Omar Abdel-Rahman, aka “the blind sheik”, is serving a life sentence in a federal prison for his role in planning the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. He is also viewed, unsurprisingly, as a religious leader in most of the Arab world.
    Thomas Jocelyn of the Weekly Standard does a great job of connecting the dots and makes a compelling case that the sacking of US diplomatic facilities on September 11 was part of a larger effort to secure the release of Omar Abdel-Rahman.

    Now we have reports that the Obama Administration is in negotiations with the government of Egypt to release the blind sheik from prison:
    The U.S. State Department is currently in negotiations with the Egyptian government for the transfer of custody of Omar Abdel-Rahman, also known as “the Blind Sheikh,” for humanitarian and health reasons, a source close to the the Obama administration told TheBlaze…

    The negotiations are allegedly part of the ongoing discussions with the Egyptian government to resolve the crisis plaguing the Middle East, the source told TheBlaze. Calls to the State Department for comment referred us to the Department of Justice, and nothing has been confirmed.
    The same story has also appeared in the Arab media. According to Al-Arabiya, as translated by Jihadwatch,
    The Egyptian government has started real action to respond to a U.S. offer offering to release 50 Egyptians in American prisons, including Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, in return for the release of 19 Americans accused of foreign funding of nongovernmental organizations, as confirmed by Major General Mohamed Hani Zaher, an expert on military research and the fight against international terrorism.
    Zaher told the newspaper that the Egyptians need to exploit the weak U.S. position, especially after the conviction of their nationals on charges affecting Egypt’s sovereignty over its territory, and not to allow this deal to take place without the agreement of the U.S. administration to release more than 500 Egyptian prisoners in U.S. custody; the Egyptian Foreign Ministry does not know anything about them.
    What we’re seeing here is the jihadist movement achieving psychological ascendancy over the Obama Administration. They have been out maneuvered at every turn and are now doing what weak players always do: they try to bargain their way out of their predicament. This administration is as effectively laying the groundwork for the next 9/11 as the Clinton Administration did for the last.

    READ THE LETTER SENT BY HOUSE GOP MEMBERS TO SEC. OF STATE AND ATTORNEY GENERAL DEMANDING U.S. NOT RELEASE BLIND SHEIKH

    A group of Congressional leaders released a copy of a letter sent to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder expressing “concern” about the possible release of Omar Abdel Rahman following a report by TheBlaze that the U.S. State Department has held internal discussions about whether to consider a request from Egypt to transfer custody of the so-called Blind Sheikh, the radical Islamist cleric convicted in connection with the 1993 World Trade Center bombing,

    “We are concerned about recent reports that the Obama administration is considering the release of Oma Abdel-Rahman … to the custody of Egypt for humanitarian and health reasons,” the letter begins. “If these reports are true, such considering would be extremely disconcerting as release of this convicted terrorist should not happen for any reason.”
    To see the full, two-page letter, signed by the House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith and seven other committee chairs click here.

    Last night, TheBlaze spoke with Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) specifically about the reported request made by the Egyptian government. When asked how the U.S. should respond to a request to release or transfer custody of the blind sheik, Gohmert responded:

    “We’re not entertaining anything from you until you get your country under control and stop this inflaming of the attacks against America.”

    That should have been the response… But we have a very weak president that thinks if he can just give away enough money and just give enough apologies that they’ll end up loving us… and these people not only do not love you for making apologies for things you shouldn’t, they develop contempt… just like a bully on the schoolyard does if he beats you up and you apologize to him and give your lunch money. He doesn’t love you.

    There’s only one thing they understand and that’s strength coming back at ‘em.

    We also pressed Rep. Gohmert on the question, Have any negotiations taken place between State and Egypt since the original request was made? His response:

    I have not, personally… I hope and pray that if this administration has been entertaining those that they will realize that we didn’t gain peace by letting murdering thugs go… It does not work when you let people who murder Americans go… trying to buy peace. What you buy is more hell and less peace.

    The release from the House GOP appears below.

    Washington, D.C.
    – A group of House Republican Chairmen today expressed concern about reports that the Obama administration is considering the release of Omar Abdel-Rahman, also known as the “blind sheikh,” to the custody of Egypt for humanitarian and health reasons. In a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Chairmen made clear that Abdel-Rahman, who inspired the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, should not be released to Egypt for any reason but should remain in federal prison.

    The report about the possible removal of Abdel-Rahman comes a week after the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Libya during which U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed. Anti-American protests have spread throughout the Middle East, including Egypt where protestors stormed the U.S. Embassy in Cairo. The violence in Egypt has been attributed, in part, to that government’s demands for the blind sheikh’s release.

    “Succumbing to the demands of a country whose citizens threaten our embassy and the Americans serving in it would send a clear message that acts of violence will be responded to with appeasement rather than strength,” the Chairmen wrote. “The release of Abdel-Rahman or any terrorist who plots to kill innocent Americans would be seen for what it is – a sign of weakness and a lack of resolve by the United States and its President.”

    House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith was joined in sending the letter by the Committee Chairmen who oversee foreign affairs and national security issues, including:

    • House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen;
    • House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Mike Rogers;
    • House Committee on Armed Services Chairman Buck McKeon;
    • House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Peter King;
    • House Committee on Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers;
    • House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Chairman Frank Wolf; and
    • House Appropriations Subcommittee on State of Foreign Operations Chairwoman Kay Granger.
