Gov’t Paid 57,000+ Federal Workers on Administrative Leave over $775M in Just Three Years

Many Americans can't find steady work these days. If all the people who have giving up looking and just fallen out of the job search market are figured in, the unemployment rate at its truest definition — people who are not working/don't have a job — is now 37.2%. The American Dream has shriveled up and died, long ago replaced by record numbers of people — more than 47 million Americans — on food stamps.

Contrast that with a new reported released by the Government Accountability Office (via Washington Post):
Tens of thousands of federal workers are being kept on paid leave for at least a month — and often for longer stretches that can reach a year or more — while they wait to be punished for misbehavior or cleared and allowed to return to work, government records show.
During a three-year period that ended last fall, more than 57,000 employees were sent home for a month or longer. The tab for these workers exceeded $775 million in salary alone.

So that's just the tab on the employees who were sent home for at least a month. The total amount is probably much higher.

In case you haven't seen it lately, I just checked the national debt clock:

(That little green arrow with the 98% next to it is meant to show that U.S. federal spending has increased 98% since the year 2000.)

The numbers continue to climb at an astronomical pace and the economy continues to collapse in not just slow motion, but the slowest motion possible. Maybe that's why the government is hyping everything from Ebola to ISIS as the equivalent of "Look over there, America! Shiny things!" so hopefully no one will notice.

The Titanic is definitely sinking, but the band is playing on. Any requests?
