American Refugees are flooding into Canada: Tens of thousands of Americans are now economic refugees

In September of 2007, the city of Windsor, which borders the United States, officially asked for financial assistance from Ottawa to deal with American refugees flooding into Canada. This is proving to be the tip of the iceberg, and only the first wave of economic refugees that have been created in the United States.

There are now tent cities being built outside most large metropolitan areas, one of the largest of which is in Los Angeles. The following report from the BBC highlights the consequence of the US subprime meltdown and the fears that the crisis is growing.

The homelessness situation has grown so rapidly in the United States that certain cities are issuing color-coded wristbands – blue for those who can stay, “orange for people who need to provide more documentation, and white for those who must leave.â€

Well, Canada has just the same right as we do to evict those who are not citizens of their country, they cannot be exected to house them anymore than we of the illegals we have here.

As for it being due to the economic meltdown here, I can understand peoples fears about their situations which may have already beend rough, but it is no reason to cross another countries border.

This is not Ontario Canada it's the city of Ontario Calif. They are trying the get rid of people who didn't live in the city of Ontario. Since they started giving food and a place for the homeless to stay they attracted homeless from everywhere...

This is talking about illegals filing refugee claims. The person who wrote this is mixing the two stories... The other story is about a tent city in Ontario Calif, they don't have anything to do with each other.

How can police ask people if they are resident of a city when they can't/don't ask a person their immigration status?

Since no pro-illegal immigration group is mentioned in the article, this must not involve illegal immigrants but rather citizens.

In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way.

Excellent point, MyAmerica! They should contact the ACLU!

If it did, you can bet your bottom dollar (literally) that LaRaza, LULAC, ACLU, et al would be there in a heartbeat to stop it!

Ontario thinning homeless population at Tent City

Ontario thinning homeless population at Tent City
    Daily News Wire
Article Last Updated: 03/24/2008 05:51:40 AM PDT

ONTARIO - Authorities will begin forcing people without local ties to leave a homeless encampment that has grown to nearly 400 residents.
Ontario officials tried to deal with the city's homeless population last year by turning a piece of land near Ontario International Airport into what became known as Tent City. Homeless people stay there in tents or trailers.

But as the spot attracted homeless persons from other cities, counties and even states, the situation became unmanageable for Ontario.

Residents of Tent City and their advocates are asking for a 30-day reprieve from the 8 a.m. Monday deadline set by the city for outsiders to leave the encampment. Some of them have said they will nonviolently refuse to leave and become subject to arrest.

Ontario is a city of about 170,000 residents nearly 40 miles east of Los Angeles.
