    Desensitized America
    By Felicia (Fee) Benamon (01/04/07)

God has blessed the United States of America. Our rich Christian heritage, love of God, and the desire for freedom and equality for all men is what our country is all about. So many valiant men and women have died and have been vigilant defending our right to freedom. But we have, as a society, become lazy. No one wants to fight anymore for what is decent and right. Have we become desensitized to all that is happening in our country as we go about our daily lives?

As a society, we seemed to have slipped into an immoral pit and are not concerned with how to get out of it. No one's closet is squeaky clean, but overwhelmingly, we seem to revel in what we are doing.

A recent report says that 37% of births are now out-of-wedlock. Increasingly, people do not associate out-of- wedlock births with being shameful, and the incidents of such births are surging. That has been the case since the late 1990's ( http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15835429/ ). There seems to be a mentality of going from one person to the next, collecting babies and baby daddies/mommas.

Where are the mentors? Where are the people who see that something is wrong with this picture? Generations X and Y have a lack of mentors to lift the standard of decency and to lead. These days, there is so much emphasis on sex, self-gratification, and partying; meanwhile we are living in very perilous times. Many parents and leaders are all consumed with other trivial matters than making sure future generations carry on the dignity of this nation.

The rocks cry out for more individuals to close the gap of the lack of participation in helping to raise a more "aware" and grounded generation. A generation aware of the significant challenges our nation faces right now and to possess the boldness to act. Now is the time to grow up.

We should not look back to days gone by and wish, "those were there good 'ol times/days." We need to pick up the pieces of those days and reconstruct what we've lost and loved so much. "Those days" will forever be lost if there is no effort to stand our moral ground.

Our moral crisis covers much territory.

We are giving our enemies the victory by being so complacent. These enemies of freedom, the freedoms we so champion, gain momentum and we haven't a care in the world. Talk about "fiddling while Rome burns!" Well, we are going to "reap what we have sown" soon if we don't get serious. What does it have to take for us to see the light?

We stand to lose our rights and identity to people of other countries, through invasion. For example, in Virginia, a "program" to ease fears about Islam has Arabic script showing up on buses and on college campuses ( http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/12/ ... _Signs.php ). You heard right! We are supposed to be sensitive and allow Muslims to put Arabic script up in our communities in the name of "sensitivity." The same goes for signs posted in Spanish.

Immigrants from various other backgrounds have NOT come to the US and pushed for their native language to be plastered all over our buildings and modes of transportation! They have respected the American culture and have not gone so far as to insult Americans by pushing their language and customs on the rest of us. People have come to America, have assimilated, and become uniquely American. That is NOT happening today.

Today, property rights are no longer intact. The more notable court case, Kelo v. City of New London, pitted Susette Kelo, a resident of New London, CT against the city in a fight to save her property from falling to developers ( http://www.ij.org/private_property/conn ... _06pr.html ). Developers are grabbing land left and right and do not care if longtime residents of a specific area disapprove of their actions. Eminent domain abuse is a continuing threat; however, if the American public is vocal enough, we could bring about change.

Global forces are trying to take over America. We aren't noticing. All one needs is to take a closer look at news of a North American merger, and follow the events that are edging toward that goal. The latest, it is said that implementation of a North American merger is just a "crisis away" ( http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/artic ... E_ID=53378 ). I'm concerned about the direction of our nation to that aspect, but I'm not fretting over what will happen when our nation faces another disaster. But one should be concerned.

Congress is set to re-enter the immigration debate again, and this time, try to come to a compromise. Common sense dictates that we need to crack down on the number of people entering our country, we are overwhelmed. I've said this in past articles, we are at war. The borders should be highly secured, and we should screen those who enter here with a vengeance. Open borders is an invitation to disaster.

Our education system is in the dump, and not enough voices are being heard in defense of it. Parents should be the ones who are in charge of their child's learning. Kids are failing and are taught propaganda instead of the basics in our public schools. It is widespread. Our children's education is important if they are to become successful. As Americans, we need to be conscious of what's going on in our country and plan to counteract such negative trends, or we will lose our country.

Another area of concern, why is the US recruiting doctors, scientists, teachers, etc. from other countries to fuel our workforce? Surely there are qualified, talented Americans who are ready to fill these important jobs.
See various comments from leaders on how we must keep America's competitive edge:
    http://www.competeamerica.org/economy/e ... index.html

Again, this is about the importance of education. American workers CAN and SHOULD be able to fill necessary jobs in their own country.

Our nation isn't strong in some areas. The world is witnessing a collapse from within. The longer it takes Americans to get involved, the worse it will get. We need to start taking responsibility for our actions and look to Almighty God, to Jesus Christ, whom we have professed our faith in overwhelmingly as a nation, for guidance and help.

God has surely blessed this country, but considering the direction we are headed, I am wondering how long He will extend His mercy to us.
