McCain urges more US forces to Mexico border

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Republican Senator John McCain called Thursday for deploying more US National Guard troops to the southern US border to contain violence spilling over from Mexico's fight with drug cartels.

"I support sending National Guard troops to assist with securing our southern border and stemming the flow of violence spilling over into the United States," the Arizona lawmaker said in a statement.

McCain cited requests by Arizona Governor Jan Brewer and Texas Governor Rick Perry for help from Washington amid a "continued escalation of violence" as a result of Mexico's drug war.

Brewer wrote US Defense Secretary Robert Gates on March 11 asking for 250 more specialized National Guard anti-drug agents.

Perry asked Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano in late February for 1,000 more National Guard and six helicopters equipped for night operations.

me thinks the violance is getting a little too close to McCain's Ranch... now he wants help

I think he should now beg those fine upstanding Mexicans ... ya know... the best that Mexico has to offer, those 7th graders looking for a better future for help in calming down the situation him and other goofy politicians like him helped create

Militarize the border permanently. Put CBP agents and all law enforcement officers on interior enforcement and intensify interior enforcement. Deport illegal aliens back to their countries. Mexicans can get flown to southern mexico, where it's safe.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought governors had the authority to deploy their own state's National Guard?

It's about time!

McCain helped light the match which set the house on fire and now he's on the phone, calling 911, pleading for the fire department to come.

Perhaps if you didn't pander to mexico and every illegal invader in this country by promising amnesty, we wouldn't be in this situation. Drugs and illegals go hand and hand! How many illegals in this country are involved in gang violence and the drug trade? How many illegals cross that border with drugs on their backs, destined for the United States?

These issues are by-products of illegal immigration, which McCain was all too willing to encourage! I guess better late than never.
