Soldier Speaks Out to Protect the 2nd Amendment

Soldier Speaks Out to Protect the 2nd Amendment

    By Onan Coca / 18 December 2013

Aaron Weiss is a combat veteran of the war in Iraq, and he now serves the people of Dutchess County, New York as a police officer. In March, he rose to speak at a meeting of the county legislature as they considered a move to repeal NY’s SAFE Act. The SAFE Act is a gun control measure that was written and passed on the heels of the Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

Mr. Weiss argues passionately, first against the idea that the legislators who passed this gun control measure were “brave,” noting that they did it in secret and moved quickly to ram it through. He also reminded these legislatures that, at the most basic level, they are stripping the rights of people away from them -- and there is nothing brave about that.

Mr. Weiss also reminds the legislators and the citizens in attendance at the meeting what the cost of preserving those rights has been. These are not rights won and kept by the bloodless debates of bureaucrats. These are rights won and kept by the men and women who fight to protect them--those who give their youth, their innocence, their health and their very lives on the battlefield--so that the rest of us can sit comfortably at home enjoying those rights in the manner we’ve come to expect.
This may well be the best defense of the 2nd Amendment given in recent days. Our elected officials could do a whole lot worse than to sit down with Mr. Weiss and ask him to tell them why our 2nd Amendment is so important. In fact, that is exactly what many of our politicians should do; maybe it would give them some much needed perspective on our God given rights.
Thank you, Mr. Weiss, for your service, your character, your courage and your willingness to stand up and fight for us once again.

Sheriffs Take Heroic Stand Against Gun Control Laws

    By Onan Coca / 18 December 2013

Across the nation the brave sheriffs that Americans have elected or hired to keep them safe are overwhelmingly turning against the government’s illegal attack on the 2nd Amendment. In Colorado, California, Florida, and New York sheriffs have stood their ground refusing to enforce laws that they see as contradictory to the Constitution. The Constitution is our law enforcement’s ultimate arbiter of justice. They have taken vows to defend the Constitution and must be saddened by the fact that they have to ignore new laws in an effort to do their duty.
Many of our nation’s sheriff’s believe as Weld County, Colorado Sheriff John Cooke does: “In my oath it says I’ll uphold the U.S. Constitution and the Constitution of the State of Colorado,” he said, as he posed for campaign photos in his office — he is running for the State Senate in 2014. “It doesn’t say I have to uphold every law passed by the Legislature.”
We don’t have specific statistics showing which side of the debate is winning with American sheriffs. It’s likely that the majority of the sheriffs across the country would abide by state laws, but in Colorado it seems that Gun Right’s advocates outnumber Gun Control advocates.
In Colorado, though, sheriffs like Joe Pelle of Boulder County, who support the laws and have more liberal constituencies that back them, are outnumbered.
A lot of sheriffs are claiming the Constitution, saying that they’re not going to enforce this because they personally believe it violates the Second Amendment,” Sheriff Pelle said. “But that stance in and of itself violates the Constitution.”

I don’t understand Sheriff Pelle’s stance that standing for the 2nd Amendment is a violation of the Constitution, but I do understand the difficulty in deciding whether or not to enforce these laws. Nevertheless, the Constitution is clear that the people’s right to bear arms should not be infringed upon, and these new Draconian measures being dreamed up at both the state and federal level must be stopped.
Liberals are constantly searching for new “rights” to defend -- marriage, healthcare, education, housing, work, etc. When it comes to rights that have been established and set in stone for over two hundred years however, liberals want to tear those down as quick as they can… makes total sense, said no one ever.
