Presumptive President-elect Joe Biden is pressuring Congress to pass a second COVID-19 relief package before the session ends.
The Democratic majority House of Representatives passed a $3. 4 trillion version of the HEROES Act in May, which would provide additional economic assistance to state and local governments, as well as a second $1,200 stimulus check for individuals who qualify.
A second version was passed by the House in October with a $2.2 trillion price tag.

Although both proposals were successful in the House, both have landed on the Republican-controlled Senate floor and have not progressed.
“Right now, Congress should come together and pass a COVID relief package like the HEROES Act that the House passed six months ago,” Biden said about a second stimulus package, according to The Hill.

“Once we shut down the virus and deliver economic relief to workers and businesses, then we can start to build back better than before.”

This bill is similar to the CARES Act, which was a $2.2 trillion relief package and was signed into law at the end of March to deal with the drastic economic downturn at the start of the pandemic.
President Donald Trump signed the bill in March due to overwhelming pressure for government intervention at the time, but what’s Biden’s excuse for wanting to pass such an expensive bill?

    Donald J. Trump
    @realDonaldTrump

I just signed the CARES Act, the single biggest economic relief package in American History – twice as large as any relief bill ever enacted. At $2.2 Trillion Dollars, this bill will deliver urgently-needed relief for our nation’s families, workers, and businesses. #CARESAct

Biden should be pushing for a more moderate relief bill or pushing for Americans to get back to work if he truly cared about America’s economic future.

Currently, the United States national debt is at $27 trillion and growing rapidly, making any bill in the trillions dangerous for the financial future of the country.
The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget put scrutiny on the relief packages, as many businesses have failed throughout the pandemic despite receiving stimulus.

A second stimulus package would also need to be more careful about what individuals and businesses receive checks.
According to The Washington Post, The Department of Treasury sent over 1 million checks to dead people at an estimated value of $1.4 billion.
There is certainly merit in Biden pushing for Republicans and Democrats to compromise on a relief package, but spending trillions is not the best solution.
If Biden wants to truly “Build Back Better,” he needs to encourage local and state governments to make plans to safely reopen all businesses in order to restore the American economy.

Erin Brockovich Writes Open Letter To Joe Biden: "Are You Kidding Me"

    Thu, 11/19/2020 - 17:00
Authored by Erin Brockovich via The Guardian (emphasis ours)

For years, I’ve been trying to impart a simple concept that Superman is not coming.
Dare I say, I had hopes that this new administration would usher in the dawning of a new day. As picks for President-elect Joe Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) transition team were announced, I felt concerned and disheartened about a chemical industry insider being on the list.
    Are you kidding me?

Michael McCabe, a former employee of Biden and a former deputy Environmental Protection Agency administrator, later jumped ship to work as a consultant on communication strategy for DuPont during a time when the chemical company was looking to fight regulations of their star chemical perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) also known as C8. The toxic manmade chemical is used in everything from waterproof clothes, stain-resistant textiles and food packaging to non-stick pans. The compound has been linked to lowered fertility, cancer and liver damage. The Guardian reported this week that Harvard school of public health professor Philippe Grandjean, who studies environmental health, warns that PFAS chemicals, of which PFOA is one, might reduce the efficacy of a Covid-19 vaccine.
This smells of the dawn of the same old. To quote the Who: meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
It should go without saying that someone who advised DuPont on how to avoid regulations is not someone we want advising this new administration.
PFOA pollutes the blood of nearly every American and can pass from mother to unborn child in the womb. This toxic product of industry is a stable compound not easily broken down in the environment or in the human body, giving it the nickname “forever chemical”. Scientists have found it in living beings across the globe – from animals living in the depths of the sea to birds on remote islands.
The Environmental Protection Agency has set no enforceable national drinking water limits for perfluorinated chemicals, including PFOA. Tens of thousands of community drinking water systems across the country have never even tested for these contaminants.
McCabe started managing DuPont’s communications with the EPA about the toxic chemical in 2003, according to an article in the Intercept. This was the time in which DuPont faced a barrage of litigation after the company dumped 7,100 tons of PFOA-filled waste in West Virginia, which made its way into the drinking water of 100,000 people. Countless members of the community faced debilitating illnesses as a result. The legal battle with the company was turned into the film Dark Waters in 2019.

Mind you, DuPont suspected that their product was harmful since the 1960s – experiments they conducted in 1961 showed that PFOS affected the livers of dogs and rabbits. McCabe’s work inevitably contributed to staving off costly clean-up and additional regulation headaches for the company.
Are we the people supposed to trust a former DuPont man in a transition team tasked with reviewing the Chemical Safety Board? Is this how the newly elected leadership wants to start what is supposed to be a healing and unifying administration? Are we already falling back on the old and antiquated, hide-and-seek, conceal, dodge and deny leadership or are you going to come out and be the change and the hope needed when it comes to the environment?
I don’t see how picking someone from industry is moving us toward that goal.
The science is in. Research has linked exposure to this chemical to the following illnesses: kidney and testicular cancer, ulcerative colitis, thyroid disease, pregnancy-induced hypertension and high cholesterol.
This newly elected president says we need to listen to the science. Are you really listening to the science or are you listening to an industry insider, who is controlling the message?
With a lack of federal guidance on these dangerous chemicals, states have been left to create their own rules to enforce guidance and regulations. This chemical, and others like it, have been poisoning us for decades. Now is the time to act.
This is not about being rightwing or leftwing. It doesn’t matter what side of the aisle you are on. We cannot keep making picks from this inside, leaving we the people, once again on the outside.
What will it take to get our leadership to work with the people?
Stop working against and separately from your communities. Put your transition team on the ground and make them talk with those affected by these chemicals. Go out and see for yourself, learn and hear from those who you represent about what the heck is happening to them on the ground – those living and breathing in the toxic mess we have created.

It is time to keep your promise and give the people a voice and a seat the table in order to find a meaningful solution for the environment and for the people. Don’t close the door on us again.
We are in this mess because we continue to do the same old thing.
Let us not forget where these chemicals came from and who is responsible for putting them in our environment. Let us not bring the fox back into the hen house. DuPont executives should have no place in the Environmental Protection Agency.
I call on Joe Biden to do the right thing.

Biden in talks to bring in Penn health official who slipped her elderly mother out of COVID-seeded facility

    By Monica Showalter

In a bid to call itself an "inclusive" administration, claimed President-elect Joe Biden is in talks to bring in a doozy of an official in his plan to halt COVID.
Here's what U.K.'s Pink News, an LGBT media outlet, reports:
Dr Rachel Levine, Pennsylvania’s secretary of health, has been tipped for a high-ranking position in the Joe Biden administration. Levine is one of the highest-ranking transgender officials in the US, and has spent this year leading Pennsylvania’s response to the pandemic in the face of shameless transphobia.
Her hard work and decades of medical experience could soon be rewarded, with her name now attached to two key White House roles.
The LGBTQ Victory Fund, a political action committee (PAC) that helped elect hundreds of queer politicians in the 2020 election, has suggested Biden should appoint Levine either secretary of health and human services or US surgeon general. Ruben Gonzalez, vice president of the PAC, said the organisation has already had “informal conversations” with the Biden transition team regarding LGBT+ appointments, and is “feeling very confident and very hopeful that we will see trans people serve in high-level roles in this administration”.
It's not about the person being transgender.
This is a helluva power-monger, who as Pennsylvania's top health official, was last seen demanding Pennsylvania residents wear COVID masks indoors, which not only is untenable, it's also anti-science, as a recent Danish study on the uselessness of masks has now found. Listen to the science? Nope, under Plan Biden, it's listen to the power-mad, the people who want to shut down the entire country, and keep shutting it down, extending and extending the shutdowns, while doing absolutely nothing of use to halt COVID. Biden repeats often that there will be 'no national shutdown' for the cameras, but with characters like this, yes, there will be a national shutdown. And it will have to be enforced by neighbor-spy-on-neighbor police-state snitching actions. The Lives of Others? Like that.
    It gets worse.
This is a socialist who loves not just the power, but the nomenklatura stuff, too, the goodies, the special benefits of being on the inside, living by a different set of rules from the rest of us.
The Pennsylvania health official first got her name in the national news last May, by forcing nursing homes with COVID patients to live side by side with vulnerable elderly residents, similar to what New York's disgraced Gov. Andrew Cuomo did. That led to the deaths of nearly 3,000 elderly and vulnerable people, three quarters of all state COVID deaths, one of the highest in the nation. But ahead of that catastrophe, which she obviously knew was coming, she carved out a little escape hatch for her mom, moving the nonogenarian to a hotel.
Here's what Penn Live reported at the time:
Health Secretary Rachel Levine said Tuesday that she had removed her 95-year-old mother from a personal care home amid a statewide coronavirus outbreak that has been particularly devastating to facilities that house elderly populations.
“My mother requested and my sister and I as her children comply to move her to another location,” Levine said at a press conference, responding to a question from ABC27. “During the COVID-19 outbreak. My mother is 95 years old. She is very intelligent and more than competent to make her own decisions.”
Department of Health spokeswoman April Hutcheson declined to name the facility but said the elder Levine and her children were notified of residents who tested positive and lived nearby within the personal care home.
Levine was careful to note that her mother was in a personal care home, not a nursing home, and that the facility in question fell under the jurisdiction of the state Department of Human Services, not her own agency.
    ...and...
Nonetheless, all three types of facilities are vulnerable to outbreaks of COVID-19.
According to state data, as of Thursday there were 12,677 resident cases of COVID-19 in addition to 1,922 cases among employees for a total of 14,599 cases at 549 individual locations across 44 counties.
Such facilities accounted for more than two-thirds of all deaths — 2,896 out of 4,218 — statewide.
Levine’s removal of her mother from the personal care home, which was revealed as she announced a plan to ramp up coronavirus testing in nursing homes, drew criticism
Protection for me, but not for thee, suck it up with life with the COVID patients, die early, and save the state some Medicaid costs.
This is a heck of an inhuman person, someone who tolerated seeding nursing homes with COVID patients, while shielding her own from any consequences on the side. Yes, she claims it wasn't a nursing home, but it begs the question: Why did nursing homes need to be seeded at all with COVID patients. And if the health operation she runs is so wonderful, why did she get her mother out of it, getting her out of harm's way while not warning others? It's disgusting all the way around and this person should never be let near the levers of federal power, given this vile and lethal record.
Biden may bring her in, and tell us it's all about 'unity.' That's some confidence builder about things getting better. These people don't care about things getting better. They protect their own, and kill as many as possible, the better to maintain that ability to order everyone around.
The unity of the grave, it looks like.
